So we're now at the 'making it look attractive' stage.
To the right, you can see the filter. The pool blanket and roller will go next to the filter. Firstly, I’m on a budget. The fence is the main issue, being pretty horrible. I want to build a box around the filter in treated pine, and a box for the pool blanket roller that I’d like to also use as a bench. I thought the light colour of pine would look better next to the fence, rather than dark wood. I’d originally thought of using two of these panels suspended on the fence http://www.outdeco.com/Screens.html, so they would bookend the planters. But now I think they'd be too dark. This is how it looks now; ![]() While I hate the fence, it looks so light and spacious. My original ideas of wooden screens to cover the fence will loose that sense of space. I've bought 3 fibreglass cube planters to go along the left hand fence, which I plan to paint - colour suggestions? So what would you do to keep the sense of space, but disguise the fence? I think you've got some good ideas. I can't see any problem with any of it, except maybe not painting it green unless you get something that works with the blue in the pool. You could go for a dirty orange to tie in with the screens, it would contrast nicely with the blue in the pool too. It's a great idea though, either the three with the screens or two larger ones (or two pairs of two) and the screens in the center.
You could paint the boxes you want to make instead of having the plain treated pine, but there are timbers out there that are a bit more durable than treated pine and aren't as dark in colour as the usual Merbau etc. You have some great ideas, the screens will look fantastic, really creative idea with the planter boxes. Go for it! |

Instead of or as well as the mondo along the longer fence, you could put some fasteners into the fence and do a cross hatch pattern using chinese star jasmine. It doesn't drop a lot, and smells gorgeous. It does however get vigorous so only do it if you're prepared to give it a haircut once a month.

Go for it! Thanks for the feedback. I was expecting someone to tell me I was being ridiculous. I like the idea of the orange. I've so many ideas that I'd love to put into practice - I just need an outlet QUOTE you could put some fasteners into the fence and do a cross hatch pattern using chinese star jasmine. I'd thought of something like this - we've just ripped down something similar with native climbers to put the pool in - the climbers had seed pods that exploded in the heat, so weren't suitable. Hey I've got that screening at my place and absolutely love it. It's about $100 per panel FYI.
I've also got lime green painted behind it and it looks fab. It's such a loud colour, but actually, in context of a garden, it blends in rather nicely with other greenery that we have. I'll take a photo tomorrow and post how it looks. |

Ooh - yes please, Credence. Is it in full sun? Have you had it a while? How is it wearing? Is it heavy?

Love some of those designs, Yoda. I don't even want to think about how much they are. I'm strictly on a budget, hence me wanting to do it myself.

Yes, they are on my "If we have money to splash about ' list. Unfortunately, I am not actually allowed to use that list .... We're using the 'Essentials on a budget' list, although my interpretation of that list is slightly different to DH's .... |

Sorry I didn't come back sooner, but here is what that screen looks like in our backyard.
![]() It's literally a lime green, but it doesn't look to loud in context of all the green foliage we have. It has enough 'pop' though.
