My fourth baby is 6mths old and started solids a little over 4mths. He took pretty well to rice cereal and purees of sweet potato, carrots, brocolli, pear, banana and apple. But now I find myself unsure of where to go from here. Ive done this three times before but still Im asking the question Just what do I feed my baby? My older kids are 14,12 and 8 so granted it has been a while but surely I should still be able to figure this out!!!
Here is what he has eaten today so far: Breastfeeds at midnight, 4.30am, 9.30am, 12.45pm, 4.30pm Breakfast 1/2 a weetbix made with warm formula, 1/2 piece of toast chewed on with margarine (8.45) Lunch 1/4 of banana mashed with some formula and a couple of teaspoons of rice cereal (12.20) Dinner Im not sure because we will be out for kids activities so might skip it and just give him a chunk of brocoli to chew on when we eat our dinner around 7pm So what do you think of this? Im thinking probably margarine isnt the best thing to be putting on his toast but not sure what else to use? He has had avacado before but willavacado keep cut up in the fridge to use again because i dont want to be using a tiny amount and chucking the rest, doesnt it discolour though pretty much as soon as you cut it? Im still at the point where im not fussed if he misses a meal here and there but maybe i should be ensuring he has three meals a day by now? He has also had natural yoghurt and grated cheese. What else can i be feeding him? He hasnt had meat yet, is is time to introduce that? |

I think it sounds like I should really crank it up a notch with feeding solids to my DD
To me it sounds like your son is getting a lot of variety. Hopefully others will have more helpful advice (I'm a first timer!) |

I think you are overthinking it.
At 6 mths I'd pretty much give a 'baby' version of whatever the family is eating. cut up vegetables, meat, pasta, bread etc. My kids loved scrambled eggs at that age! |

Sounds good to me.
With DS 2 he just gets what ever we are eating wizzed upwith some breast milk or boiled water in the magic bullet. You can start introducing meats and fish now. I will make a batch of spag bol (just mince and a can of herbed tomatoes and boiled spaghetti) then blend it up and freeze it in cubes (I have nifty little baby food trays with lids) then pop them into a freezer zipped bag and take out as needed. I've also done chicken and apricots in the fry pan then blended with boiled rice and frozen. There are some great baby food websites! Another trick is to see what the premade baby foods are and copy to make your own (minced lamb, mashed potato & pea). |

Avacado on toast is a real favourite here. I by small avacados and cut the very top off the avacado and use it like a spread then put in an air tight container in the fridge. The bit that is exposed to the air discolours but its only the surface and can be scrapped off. I have had avacados last a week this way. I also really like avacado on toast myself. I've heard that you should try to keep the seed in as long as possible to keep it fresh.

Momo and madnesscraves thanks for the tips re avacados!
Vegiepatchfamily, great idea about copying the store bought baby food varieties! Iwanttosleepin, i think you're right that Im overthinking things, i should just give him what we are eating when appropriate. Scrambled eggs is a good idea, he did actually have some quiche the other night so has tried eggs before. Fairey how old is your dd? Has she started solids and if so what is she having? |

My son loved tuna mornay (slightly pureed) at 6 months for dinner,as well at rice with puree veggies.
As for avocado, it keeps fine for a couple days if you leave the pip in & put the halves back together & wrap up once you're finished. But like a pp said it can be frozen. For breakfast I always did weetbix with banana & as a pp said eggs is a good idea too. I think butter on toast is fine. You can try some.spreads too like jam or vegemite.
