I'm in NSW so we have 3 and 4 year old preschool then first year of school (our kindergarten) after that. My son was 3 years and 1 month when he started 3 year old preschool, it is a community preschool which he went to 2 days a week 9-3 both days. He then moved up in to the 4 year old preschool class which is 3 days per week 9-3 which is where he goes now. He'll start school next year. He loved it and settled in from the first minute - he'd never been in childcare before that but took to it really well, and just gained so much from it. I think at 3 he was really ready for that next level - we'd been doing mum and preschooler activities like gymbaroo, kindermusik but 3 year old preschool was great for him. My daughter will be starting 3 year old preschool next year just days after she turns 3, she is 2.5 now and is already looking forward to it
