I am making felt dolls for my daughter that has interchangeable clothing. The doll is going to be made of felt and I have a mix of flannalette, cotton etc that I want to make the dresses out of. The dolls will be no more than 10 cms tall with the dresses around 5cms. Measurements are just a guide of what I will be working with.
What would be the best way to attach the dresses to the dolls making them easy to put on and off? The dolls are flat so the dresses will just sit on top of the doll if that makes sense. I am thinking velcro either in dots or small pieces but would press studs be ok? My daughter is 6.5 but if what I am making is a success, then I am thinking of maybe making up a few as Christmas presents. Which is why I am wondering what method of attaching the dresses would be the safest? This post has been edited by OneBlueStar: 04/08/2012, 06:27 PM |

Felt would work. Just like fuzzy felt pictures. The clothes will also be less flimsy if you back the entire thing

We have some large dress up dollies that sound similar, and they have a small velcro square on the back of the clothes that you just grip onto the felt. When you say press studs, do you mean having one on the doll and then one of the clothes that can match together? If so, I wouldn't go that way as it might not sit right on the doll and look a bit funny.

I would go the velcro! I think it would be easier and like a PP said press studs might result in the clothes not fitting properly.

I made this one (Millie Molly Dolly Bag)and used velcro. I stitched it onto the shoulders of the outfit and also onto the shoulders of the dolly. The pattern did use clear press studs that sit quite flat but I thought the velcro would be easier for my DD. Have fun!!!
