I know that cats are the flavour of the month and yet I'm in shock this is happening to me.

I, like others here, have been having cat problems for a few months. We've just today decided to commit to the trap and dump at the pound option. We have a much loved cat and these night prowlers are causing too much damage and distress.

Anyway an abandoned kitten has decided that it wants to move in with us just today. I haven't let it in as I don't want to upset our over indulged raggie too much, but it's moved in under our house and is crying it's pathetic song. When I shut the back door it howled.

WWYD?

I'd make it comfortable for the night, catch it, and feed it and take it to the vet inthe morning. Our vet works in cahoots with the local rescue centre.

Right or wrong, I'd be down there with a sleeping blanket and some food and water for tonight. Then contact the local vets and put signs up tomorrow just in case this is a little escape artists and someone is missing her. The 10 year old cat snoring beside me on a polar fleece was a stray 12 week old kitten that no one claimed though so don't listen to me!!

I'm a sucker, I'd let it in but keep it isolated until it could be health checked.

I agree, catch the poor little thing tonight and give it a feed and some fresh water - keep it locked away in the laundry until morning if your raggie will be distressed by it running around - and then take it to the local vet in the morning. They usually get one of the nurses to take it home and look after it until someone adopts it, so it will be well looked after.

That is if you can bear to hand it over once you've let it in the house? wink.gif

My sister found a lost kitten in her backyard about a year ago. Gorgeous little thing that was extremely friendly. At the time they didint really want a cat BUT they we worried about its welfare. After asking all the neighbours if it was theirs they rang the RSPCA and dropped kitty off and said if she was not adopted by the 'deadline' they would take her. Well my sister now has a lovely spoilt inside cat. They officially adopted the kitten from the RSPCA and got all vet work done ect (much cheaper than a vet charges)

Could you do something similar and if kitty is not adopted perhaps foster? Or in the meanwhile ask around friends ect if they want to adopt a cat?

Obviously you know the high rate of kittens that are PTS in pounds and shelters so if you feel guilty about it this is a way to do the 'right thing' without having the guilts or adopting a cat you dont want.

I don't feel guilty about this cat being PTS. I don't feel sorry for it. In fact I feel zero sentiment toward its plight. We're seriously being overrun by cats at night here.

I'm considering leaving it to fend for itself as it made itself way too comfortable about coming in when I left the door open. It's the way of the animal world.
