Anyone have a child diagnosed with SLI? DS had his autism assessment today and they don't think he is on the spectrum but they do say he has SLI.

My 4 yr old has autism and verbal apraxia. Who said he has SLI? A paed or a speechie. A speechie probably knows more about particular speech problems than a paed.

A speechie dx SLI. DD1 has been ex with SLI or speech delay at 3-4 yrs old, but was finally dx with ASD at 9.5 yrs.
DD2 was dx with Verbal Dyspraxia at 2 yrs 10 mths and I was told she also has SLI at 5 yrs old. I believe with DD2, her dyspraxia caused the SLI. Both girls had to have SLI to get into the Language Development Centre they attended for school until yr 3. |

I'm ignorant when it comes to SLI, can someone please explain it to me. I know how autism and verbal apraxia affects my son's speech. Jofisk why do you think the apraxia caused the SLI? I'm not questioning what you say, I just want to understand it better for my son's sake.

I am still learning all about it, and getting no where. We had an autism assessment done on DS just a couple of days ago in Perth and tey don't feel that there will be enough to diagnose Autism but they definately confirmed SLI which I am finding hard to find anything about as everything says it is just part of Autism and doesn't seem to stand alone (different to what I was told)
