My little DD is 22 months now and in a few months time after she turns 2, I'm considering enrolling her in some kind of group activity or class. She's a fairly sensitive soul and I'm wondering if she could benefit from being in a big group of kids, following direction from a teacher, etc.
Just curious if any of you have 2 year olds (or older) attending a class? Something like Little Kickers, dance, gymbaroo? Do you find it has improved their social skills, given them confidence? |

My daughter does Kindy Gym and Swimming lessons. Next year we will swap them and try Dance and during the winter months a music class. She loves them and I'd doing really well at following directions and listening. We have off day and on those days I don't push her but 9 put 10 days she does really well.
We will probably go back to swimming and gymnastics but I just want her to have a chance to try these other classes to see what suits her. |

No, not as yet. But she's close to being ready to benefit from something like that.
We'll start with swimming lessons in 2013 and go from there. |

I don't think it changes the essence of the child, but a group situation particularly one where she is accompanied by a parent and with the same group of kids each time, is great.
We have done Mainly Music, another small music class, gymnastics, Kindy Dance Time and swimming at that age. Miss 23 months will be starting gym next year some time. Swimming is probably the least social of these but we enjoy them all. Our kids are all different but mostly enjoy them all. Pick something that is at the right time of day. We just changed swimming from 1030 to 0900 and she is doing so much better! |

My 2.5yo DS has been doing Kindergym for more than a year and swimming lessons for the last couple of months. We are dropping Kindergym for Little Athletics at the start of the year.
He is also starting Montessori 1/2 day a week soon. But that is more for a break for me! |

Eqmon does gymbaroo and swimming and has done so from just before turning 2. He has allready been going to daycare so had been used to the socialisation but meeting and playing with different kids was fantastic (still is)

My 2.5yo DD has been going to daycare for a half day a week for about a year - loves it.
She did swimming from 6 months to about 2 years and loved that also. I stopped as it got all too hard when our second bub came along but I am planning on re-enrolling her in swimming within the month. Best thing - from 2.5 they go in by themselves!! We also did baby gymbaroo when she was little (maybe 8 months?) but I wasn't a huge fan. My kids also love playgroup. We go weekly. Great group of kids and mums. |
