OK so DD is nearly 15 months, still wants bfing 2-3 times a day, Ive been trying unsuccesfully for the last 3 months or so to cut it down. Shes fine when Im not there anyway, I went away for about 30 hours and she coped fine with her dad (she doesnt drink cows milk or formula).
Just found out Im about 8 weeks pregnant. I work full time in a fairly demanding job and will need to up until about 8& 1/2 months for financial reasons. But the problem is DD keeps getting a lot of colds and flus, ear infections etc, and often doesnt want to eat or drink much water when sick, she just wants boob. She is underweight according to the growth charts (confirmed by a doctor and a MCHN) although she doesnt look unhealthily skinny and is otherwise healthy and developing well.

So what would you do under these circumstances.... If I keep letting her have breastfeeds a little longer, will it affect the current pregnancy? Should I just load up on vitamins and iron tonic and keep going?

Thanks very much!

There is absolutely no need at all to discontinue breastfeeding when you get pregnant.

Definitely no need to stop breastfeeding because you are pregnant. I breastfed DS1 up to a month before DS2 was born. I weaned him bc he was 2.5 so didn't really need it.

This time I was still breastfeeding too. DS2 weaned himself when I was 4 months pregnant. I would have co-fed with DS2 and this bub this time if DS2 still wanted to be breastfed.

It isnt. I know a few ppl who have fed right through and tandem fed. Others where the milk changed taste and the child weaned themself.

All the best

Keep going if you want, you lucky thing. Some of us cannot fall pregnant when breastfeeding.

I'd just keep breastfeeding her. If you are feeling particularly drained, you could perhaps drop her down to 1 or 2 feeds a day, for example just before bed. The new baby will take what it needs first.

Make sure you eat plenty of really good, healthy food and plenty of good fats etc to keep your energy up.

A multi vitamin is not going to be anywhere near as good for your toddler as your milk.

It is up to you whether to continue or not. It sounds like you want to wean now but are trying to avoid being the one to make the decision.

I breastfed DD1 until I was 7 months pregnant with DD2. It did not affect the pregnancy one bit. Our bodies can be quite amazing, growing one person while being the total nutrition for another.

You do know what is best for you, you just have to trust yourself.

LOL I meant a multi vitamin for me!
I guess it is fairly common to keep feeding then.
One of the reasons I am keen to wean is that I thought breastfeeding was making me tired. But it would seem that it might have been being pregnant that was making me tired blush.gif

Re the tiredness, get your iron levels tested. Both BF and pregnancy really take it out of you.
