If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you?
My DS is 14 months and has always been a "challenging" sleeper. He falls asleep easily but doesn't stay asleep. He goes back to sleep as long as he gets boob.

Now I am concerned if perhaps he's not getting "enough" sleep. He probably does about 8-10 hours overnight of broken sleep, waking up anywhere between 4 and 10 times and then he usually either has 2 x 1 hour naps during the day or 1 x 2 hour nap depending on what time he woke up. Sometimes his day sleeps are shorter.

So he probably gets about 10-12 hours of sleep a day.

He is a very happy, bright baby and extremely energetic so I'm wondering if maybe there is something "wrong" with him? Or is ts enough sleep? He seems to be coping with it but I wonder if it's not enough.

I have had these worries about DD who is 21 months ever since birth. She always slept less than the books say and generally less than others her age. I have done a lot of things to help her get more sleep but after that it's over to her...if your little one is happy then don't worry.

Can't believe my baby girl is 1!
I personally would be concerned about waking 4-10 times overnight. I think that much broken sleep wouldn't be good for the child or the parent. I know it would be doing my head in!

Day naps- not all kids need them. But I do think having a good night sleep with minimal wakening is important and I would work on trying reduce the night waking. Even if you just start gently cutting back having the boob all night. I don't know how you do that- I would want my space and body back!

It would be the broken sleep at night for me too.

My kids did 10-12hrs overnight the would do max 3x15 mins cat naps during the day.

Even now they Are the energiser bunnies

DS was a shocker when he was younger, and wasn't until about 8/9 months we got things under control. He now sleeps 11-12 hours overnight unbroken, but his day sleep has always been dodgy.

Up until about two months ago he was having two 40 minute sleeps a day. He then started extending the morning sleep and dropping the afternoon one. He now sleeps about 1-1.5 hours in the morning, and the time has only really extended since he's started getting more mobile (cruising and walking with our assistance)

He's just never seemed to need as much sleep as other babies. He's much like your DS - alert, meeting milestones, happy and healthy.

DS1 was the same. Rarely slept and it drove me crazy. DS2 is different and has 12 hrs unbroken sleep of a night and 2x 1hr sleeps during the day. DD I don't remember! Kids are all different. You say he is happy and cheerful so it's working for him!
