Lils I agress with Wizzlet, it sounds like Samuel may be getting overtired. We were told by the sleep clinic, our MACH nurse and GP that at that age babies should be up an absolute maximum of 1.5 hours and DD never made it much past an hour until about 3 months.

As she never slept longer than an hour, it meant I spent my day putting her down for a lot of naps. We were advised to always resettle but that just didn't work for us. I spent 8 weeks banging my head against a wall trying to resettle after each nap and in the end gave up - now I accept she has three one hour naps per day, and we are all happier!

I can't remember our exact pattern around 10 weeks but I know I would aim to feed three hourly (often it was around 2.5 hours) and would have feed, play for about an hour, settling for a nap (could take up to half an hour), nap of about an hour, then up again. In the late arvo I would often let her have one sleep on my chest as she would sleep for longer, but otherwise I was very strict with all other naps being in her bed. That has worked out really well and saved us fights now that she is alert enough to know where we put her down.

I remember how stressful that time was... good luck!

wizzlet - i know its way too long but i am trying to get him to sleep with no luck!! just looking for other ways to go about things as he often just doesnt resettle after the half hour nap. And i know he is overtired at times, but i cant get him to sleep longer.

purple_daisy - what you described is what we have at the moment - feed, play, watch for tired signs that come around the 1-1.5 hour mark then try to settle which either happens right away or takes up to half an hour, then he sleeps for half an hour and wakes. Sometimes i let him stay up and feed him because he's hungry other times i try and resettle which can result in 30min plus of screaming until he either crashes or gets hungry (usually the latter) then the cycle starts again.... sad.gif like you i usually let him have a good long sleep in my arms or in the ergo of an arvo so he gets at least one block of more than 30min. just with all the screaming i wonder if i should be doing something different. i should add if we are out and about he often doesnt scream as much, but he doesnt sleep any more either, hence why i am wondering if i should be letting him do something different.

Lils it sounds like you are trying all the right things hhugs.gif I think some babies, especially those with silent reflux, are just not destined to follow the feed play 2hr sleep pattern. DD has only just now started to follow any semblance of a daytime 'routine' (and I use that word very loosely) and I think it was something that she just had to grow into. Looking back I think I should have just worn earplugs during settling as it seems it was something we just had to soldier through and endure for a few months, and suddenly now her days are improving greatly, no thanks to all my motherly worrying or analysing (not suggesting that is what you are doing, I know I just spent a lot of time worrying about her short sleeps and now I just accept that this is the way she is, life is so much easier).

Good luck hon!

Hi girls hope you are all well. I had my dating scan today and we have a little peanut on board with a hb of 126bpm measuring 6 weeks 4 days by doctors dates should have been 7 weeks 2 days so my new due date is 19th May. I also have a small corpus luteum cyst on my left ovary which explains some of the cramping pains that I have been getting.
