My little man 6 months has cut down his sleeps to two 1 hour sleeps! Is this right for his age? Is there anything I can do that Iaybe haven't thought of to get him to sleep longer? At the moment he has food and then a bottle and then goes to bed at lunch, his morning sleep is at 8am after bereakfast and a bottle , he gets swaddled, dummy in and then I give him a little pat and or rock if he is still unsettled. What can I do? I have tried putting bonjella on his gums (he is teething) and nothing makes a difference. I don't know if he is getting enough sleep. Any suggestions?

At 6 months DD was doing two 40 minute naps a day.
Not sure what you can do about it! I strung her out for a little longer in the mornings so she would take one nap mid morning and one nap mid afternoon, that way she wouldn't be too tired at dinner time. |

At that age DS was doing 11 hours overnight (7pm to 6am), 45 min in the morning (9-9:45), 1.5 hours in the afternoon (12-1:30) and 45 min in the afternoon (4-4:45) - so 14 hours over 24 hours. I'm told the 'normal' range at six months is 12-15 hour in 24 hours.
So rather than concentrate on just day sleeps, look at it overall. If bub isn't gettin at least 12 hours a day, he or she probably isn't getting enough sleep and you should try for one more day sleep. If he or she sleeps like a trooper overnight and just needs less in the day, then that might be fine too! |
