I was discussing this with a couple kindy mums yesterday about having teddies in their younger childrens cots/beds and was surprised that many of them do. One said she leaves teddies/toys at the end of the cot so when her LO wakes they are distracted for a few minutes and play happily, and another said her daughter has a teddy tucked into bed with her and she is just over 1.

I guess I'm curious about the ages young kids are when others put teddies in their beds. I guess being a sids risk made me wary and DD1 was well and truly out of her cot and even then they were always at her feet. At about 4 she started insisting her toy donkey and 2 beanie kids had to be tucked in.

Do you let your babies/toddlers sleep with teddies/dolls? And what age did you allow it?

Just after he turned one, maybe 14 months or so we put a teddy in DS' cot cause he loves them so much. I asked Tressilian, they said a small teddy was fine at that age.

DS has had a comforter (small bear attached to a little bit of blankey) since he was 4 months old. I introduced it on advice and now its a sleep que for him.

Around 10 months we started leaving a little book (palm sized with attached ring) in there because DD would "read" herself to sleep and play with it in the morning when she woke up. She's 11 months now and we've added a stuffed moose.

I was pretty paranoid about SIDS for the first 8 months but now that she's crawling/standing and moving all around in her cot through out the night I've relaxed. I'm pretty sure the SIDS recommendations are for under 1 year olds.

I started putting a favourite toy (monkey) in the cot around 10mths. Also a cotton quilted blanket (that we now have to drag everywhere) about the same time. DS was rolling, sitting and pulling up by then, so it seemed reasonable and he still chats to monkey before he falls asleep and in the morning. He's over two now, but most nights ends up using monkey as a pillow

DD started having soft toys in her cot at around 15 months. She has about 8 all up in there.
She plays with them when she wakes or before she goes to sleep if she isn't overly tired.

Personally I am not worried about the SIDS risk anymore.

Yeah DS has an hoot the owl soft toy that he goes to bed with.

Not as a baby but from about 14 months onwards.

Nothing else though and he is in a grobag.

Ds1 moved into a toddler bed at 14 months so would get toys and take with him to bed, he is now nearly 3 and has so much crap in his normal size bed it annoys me, every morning I will find a few books and about 8 different toys, ds2 is 18 months old and has had a few toys in his big bed since we moved him out of his cot (about 4 months ago)

In Beans cot there is:
her blanket as she hates sleeping bags (damn) and her teddy.
She cuddles Artemis T Bear when she's going to sleep and she'll happily "talk" to him and eat his ear for 5-10 minutes in the morning while I pee.
She's 10 months and very mobile.
