Hello,
Im currently 22 weeks pregnant and on 40mg of clexaine injections daily, i have a blood clotting disorder having found out after our baby girl Evie was born sleeping at 41 weeks. I was wondering if anyone else has the prothrombin gene and MTHFR and has gone on to have a healthy baby using the clexaine injections, im just a bit concerned about complications during labour such as lossing to much blood due to the blood being to thin, ive heard that you cant have an epidural and if you need an emergency c-section you have to be knocked out. thanks for your time Beck* |

Hi Beck,
I have a clotting disorder called factor five and lost our first son Kobi 2 years today at 38 weeks. I was on aspirin which I stopped at 35 weeks during this pregnancy. I have gone on to have another son who is almost 12months and was on aspirin and clexane 40mg during and after this pregnancy. He was born prem at 34 weeks I had to stop the injections for 48hours before the c-sect and then I was back on them for 6 weeks. My delivery was going to be planned anyway at 37weeks at which point I was to be induced or c-sect so that they could conrol this. I was also on some serious monitoring from 28 weeks of my preg. I am now 18 weeks preg again and I am on 60mg clexane this time around. Again I am expecting a planned delivery at 37weeks if I make it that far. If you want any more info just PM me. Good luck. |

Did the doctors advise you to stay on the injections the whole way through the pregnancy, they have said that my levels are good and i could probly go off the injections if i like, but i have decided to stay on them just for peace of mind im scared if i go of them things will go wrong again, its just extremly hard wondering what if again, there monitoring me every 3 weeks at the moment hopefully they will see me every fortnight soon, every week would be nice, may i ask why your little boy was prem. Thankyou once again for your time and all the best |

I was on clexane for the first 16 weeks of my pregnancy (currently 34 weeks). Mine is an ivf baby and. Was told its standard procedure as it reduces the risk of miscarriage and my doctor was a specialist in that. I was told there's no risk and so far everything seems fine!

Bek I have clotting issues and a few antibodies etc thrown into the mix and have 3 kids from 2 pregnancies.
With regards to Ceasars yes it can rule out Epis however some anethestisits will allow a spinal block so you can remain awake especially if you have had 24-48 hours notice to stop the Clexane. I was under a haemotologist the first time around and he strongly advised me to have an elective ceasear as he felt that any blood loss would be easier to manage and control though it was up to me. I was intending on a ceasar regardless. Pregnancy 1 ended up in an emenrgency C section at 31 weeks due to a heamorraghe, Placent Previa and pre term labor. I had been having problems by that stage though for 3 weeks and 1 of my twins growth had slowled dramatically so from 28 weeks I was on notice it could be any day..... Pregnancy 2 was managed without Haemotologist (thank goodness) and we were on Clexane the entire way through. was due to stop at 38 weeks with a ceaser booked for 38 and 2 however I went into Labor at 37 weeks and had another Emergency C section. With both they were generals and both I was given the option of Spinals. Also I don't know if it was because it was 8.00 o'clock at night and quiet but DH was actually given the offer to come in and watch once I was out of it with DS2 (trust me very rare with ceasars under gA but he declined lol) Post birth I was on Cleaxne for 6 weeks as well good luck |

Hi Beck I have the gene as well. I never had Clexane but took Asprin for two of my pregnancies up to 36 weeks. Post birth I was on Fragmin for 6 weeks.
Both times I was induced so that the birth could be monitored closely as my Obs did not want me to go into labour spontaneously. Has your Obs discussed this with you? I hope the remainder of your pregnancy goes smoothly. This post has been edited by WibbleWobble: 11/04/2012, 09:50 PM |
