A Protecta Harness which threads through a seat like the SnS HiLiner or SnS Maxi Rider IS still an 'add on' harness. It is not a part of the seat. It is an additional item purchased to use with a booster seat. It attaches to a Versa Tether at the top tether and then threads through the seat slots. It is STILL an 'add on' harness though.

The only harnesses which are inbuilt to a seat are the inbuilt 5pt harnesses used for forward facing children's seats. The harness goes around the seat and moves with the seat at impact. With an 'add on' harness (protecta or H Harness or any other variety) the harness is joined to the anchor point and then threaded through a lap only ( or converted lap/sash) seatbelt. When an accident occurs the harness does not move with the seat as it is anchored to the car and this produces greater forces on a child's torso/body.

With respect, caz411, IsolaBella knows more about child restraints than most authorized restraint fitters. If you were a regular here in the CR forum, you'd realise that wink.gif

I'd be very, very wary of trusting many authorised restraint fitters. I have seen professionally fitted restraints (that people have actually paid a fee to have fitted) which are actually installed incorrectly, and had to reinstall them properly (with the permission of the restraint owner).

Everyone makes the choices thy think are appropriate for their child(ren) based on the knowledge and information that they have access to. However, it doesn't do to be closed-minded when you learn that the advice you've trusted proves less than appropriate, especially when it comes to safety.

Caz411 that may be what was recommended for your situation. I am just pointing out for other readers that current recommendations from safety experts (including on VicRoads, Vic Kidsafe plus research papers such as those in the sticky at the top of this forum) generally do not recommend their use (although many baby stores do try and promote them as a 'requirement').

Harnesses
Harnesses have previously been recommended as a good option to use with booster seats. However, if the child is of correct height and weight, they should be able to use a lap sash belt with the booster.
Recent research by Bilston has demonstrated that almost 100% of harnesses are fitted incorrectly; therefore, Kidsafe only recommends use of a harness in cases where a lap only belt is the only available alternative.

"It's a foreskin, not a birth defect!"
We have a 2007 Ml Triton. I love it, it's a great car.
It is very squishy across the back with car seats. We have an MRII AHR & a Hi-liner ASC & we can just squeeze a sunshine half booster in between. A child can fit in there, an adult barely fits. If it's a new model, they might have increased the size.
I would be interested to know if anyone has a 2007 Triton with a middle anchor?
It doesn't seem to have an anchor point in the middle. It is being used by the jack & tyre lever.

Thanks Ladies for all your replies. I've got a number of options from them.

We will have the car for 2 years, and as far as I can see, our eldest will be out of a booster seat before the youngest would be out of a 5 point harness.

Thanks for the tip about the middle seat belt being ok for a car seat. I never thought of that! Also, I know the cars do not have a middle anchor point, or a spot to put it, but from other posters, can I have a spot installed/ somehow drilled there?

Thanks again!
