Car Travel from Melbourne to Noosa

My husband, me and our two babies, Charlie (just 2) and Olivia (6 months) will be hitting up Noosa for a holiday in November and I was debating driving as we can take as long as we want and if it is a nightmare I can always fly home with them.

My question is, has anyone done this and where did you stop on the way - any tips on accommodation/where to stop/play areas would be really helpful. It should take about 20 hours so I think 6-7 hours per day, so two overnighters?!?!?!

Thanks all x
