I am due to give birth to my second baby in 6 weeks.

At 20 week scan I had a low lying placenta - 2.3cm.

Now at a follow up scan at 34 weeks, a more accurate measurement shows the placenta is only 1.6cm from cervix - AND, baby is in breech position.

I am so scared of a CS which has been suggested as a possibility.

My first was born vaginally and he was big. It was a relatively short labor with no complications. I just figured this one would come out the same way - but now with 6 weeks to go and a breech baby and still a low lying placenta I have got myself into a real panic.

Was anybody in similar position at this stage of pregnancy?

Did you end up having a VB or were you advised to have a CS?

Did anybody have a VB without complications even though you had a low lying placenta?

Blimey. As if there wasn't enough to worry about.

Thanks so much.

hey there

So I was just in a similar position yesterday....
I also had a low lying placenta and had a scan last week at 32 weeks and turns out while placenta is not low anymore baby was breech...

With regards to the placenta, the good thing is that it is not covering your cervix but it does really depend on your OB or midwife as to whether they will let you try to deliver via VB with the placenta still being low at this stage... best to talk to your carer about that one and get all the informaiton on what their processes are...

As for the breech birth, when I went to my OB yesterday, she had turned and was head down... who knows if she will stay but what he did say to me is this:

He definitely wasn't worried and about 30% of babies are breech at this stage. And if by 37 or 38 weeks she is still breech there is an external procedure that can be done by a specialised doctor who can help the baby turn...

So basically, you still have time - try not to worry and relax as much as you can... hopefully baby will know what to do when the time comes original.gif

And if you do happen to have to have a CS then just know that these days they are so much more advanced than they used to be... small cut and if all goes well and you are generally a healthy person then you should be up an about within no time original.gif

All the best!

Oh and I forgot to mention this is #2 for me to and after having a pretty good labour with number one I also was starting to get upset that I might not be able to with number #2.... but just remember, still early days original.gif
