My poor winter boots, bought in the UK 6 years ago, and lovingly looked after ever since just won't do another winter.

I have actually been saying this for a few years, and even got budgetary approval (!!) for a new pair to be custom made a few years back - but I then fell pregnant and was not willing to spend $$$ on boots that might not fit again depending on how my body changed during and after pregnancy.

My existing boots are black, calf length, with a small chunky heel.  They zip up, and fit perfectly around my calf, and when first purchased were reasonably slim fitting around the ankle too - sadly, gravity has taken it's toll, despite discliplined use of the stick things to go inside them, so they are now baggier around the ankles.

In the UK, well fitted boots were common, and often worn even amongst my peers (fairly conservative professional services firm) with knee length skirts.

In Australia it just seems all the off-the-shelf boots are not very form fitting, and they put me in mind of gumboots.

I've had a quote for custom made calf length boots - but despite DH resigned acceptance, I just cannot bring myself to spend over $1,000 on a single pair of shoes!

So, tell me, where can I buy beautiful, form-fitting, non-stiletto winter boots?  Or where can I get them custom made for cheaper than $1k?

Love this store, very fast shipping, you measure around calf etc and they are great. Seem to be reasonably priced too.

I saw a good selection in Gary Castles the other day... they range in price, but around the 600-700 mark, so a bit cheaper than your 1k limit original.gif

OMG, 1k for boots is a dream of mine.

I don't have any suggestions, but I'd probably just get myself to the city and look around until I found 'the ones'.

Funnily enough Sandler. I had the same trouble finding them all much like gumboots (I run for fitness so my legs are reasonably thin/athletic). About 2 years ago I purchased a pair of Sandler boots for about $230 which fit my calves perfectly. They had heels but certainly not stiletto's. I am heading back to DJ's in my next free weekend to see if i can find another pair.

Check out the Dr Martens website (US site).... they have a gorgeous range of women's heels/boots that sound like what you're after (they've come along way since just their black lace ups)..... also, it's SO much cheaper to buy direct from them and have them shipped across and you can't fault the quality of DMs....
here's the link to their women's heels/boots range.

I bought some beautiful boots from Joanne Mercer the other day.

They fit perfectly around the ankle. Nice and flat, and I love the fact they are relatively plain, no embellishments on them, so won't be out of fashion next year.

This is them boots

They had 50% off the second pair, so I bought a pair of brown ones too (different style).

I got some lovely ankle boots (by Planet) in Mountfords.  They are in Melbourne but they have an online store too.  They seem to do only slightly posh brands, steering towards sensible rather than tarty.  wink.gif
