on the news this morning there are reports of another apparent sighting.

do you think this poor little girl could still be alive?

i hope that if she is, shes with someone that treats her like a princess, but part of me cant help but think they will never find her sad.gif

what do you think???

#2 Soontobegran

No I don't think she is still alive and I think her parents have probably let go of that too! In my heart I would love to think she was stolen by a wonderful family who are loving and nurturing her...it is nicer to accept that possibility than focus on what is the most likely scenario. sad.gif
Poor family, there will be reportings of sightings forever.

No I don't believe she is alove either and I think people who pass on these "sightings" are ridiculous. How would they even know what she would look like all these years later, she could look like anything!

I don't think she's alive.

As STBG said the poor family will have to live with 'sightings' for the rest of their lives...
Hell - people still 'spot' the Beaumont children for heavens sake!

Agree, nice to know people are still keeping a eye out just incase though..

She had a very distinctive iris on her right eye. A coloboma there made her pupil look keyhole shaped. It's pretty rare.

I agree, it's so unlikely she'll ever be found. Can't help but hope though and I guess with her distinctive eye if she is out there somewhere then maybe one of these sightings will be real.

I came face to face with her mother in a bathroom once, about a year after Maddy went missing. She looked so desperately lost, I'll never forget that look in her eyes - I think her expression will stay with me forever.

TBH I have no idea if she could be alive or not. If she is I hope so much that she is being cared for well.

I watced a doco on Foxtel last year about her dissapearance and it really changed my mind on the whole thing. I wish those who report "sightings" would take into account the parents feelings. The parents are living with guilt for the rest of their lives, they dont need to be punished further.

I don't think she is alive. I don't want to think she is alive. I think if she is alive then there are probably some pretty awful things that have happened to her or are still happening now.

Nice wonderful families don't kid nap children and they don't buy children that others have kidnapped and then watch years worth of media coverage that shows their family crying and begging for her return.

I am glad that people report sightings if they are concerned. There have been a few children returned after years that have been living out in the open. She could look like anything now though. My 8 year old looks nothing like she did when she was 2 or 4. All 4 kids have been born really dark, turned blonde with light eyes and very pale skin before getting their "dark colours" as we call them. The end up with black hair, brown to almost black eyes with dark skinned. My DH goes away for 6-9 months and is always shocked that the child he came home to looks nothing like the one he left.

Other than her eye. Maddy may look nothing like she did when she was taken making it impossible to recognise her.

How is a reported sighting punishing her parents? If I saw a girl that looked like her and had a similar pupil, I would report it. I think it would be insane not to, even though I think the chances of her being still alive (and out in public) are so so incredibly slim. But I wouldn't be able to sit on that information, just in case.

You're right her parents will feel guilty for the rest of their lives, but that doesn't mean other people shouldn't share information that could potentially lead to finding her (dead or alive). Unfortunately that means there will be a lot of wrong leads too, but anything that leads to closure for the parents has to be seen as useful.

I kind of feel a bit like this too.

I was actually thinking about her the other day and concluded that she was probably dead.

It's sad on so many levels. I mean, not only for her and her family but, as a society there are the type of people who do this to innocent children.

If my child disappeared, I would never stop looking sad.gif . And I'd be grateful for any tip, if it means people are still looking and caring.

As we have seen with some US cases the kids can still be alive.
Elizabeth Smart and the one in California (kept in tent in back yard returned 18yrs later) are examples. As PP have said though, their lives were not happy ones during their kidnapping.

Just a very sad circumstance all around.

I agree. In fact, I almost hope that she is dead, because the most likely alternative is too horrifying to contemplate.

What I was getting at is like a PP said, she would look so different now and reported sightings I think should be investigated before letting the parents know. Imagine, hypothetically, having a "sighting" every week, or even every month. Of course the parents should be told but I think that investigation of the sightings is really important.

No, I don't think she's alive.
Sadly, I've thought this for years.

I can only hope that she didn't suffer too much.

Her poor, poor parents.

#20 Guest_~Karla~_*

I would think the majority of reported "sightings" would be investigated without anyone knowing, including the parents. But some will slip through to the media and be reported.

I know someone who reported something about the Daniel Morcombe case years and years ago. It was investigated but turned out to be a false lead and the parents never knew. We only hear about such a minute amount of the work put into cases like this.

Also they did release updated guess on what she would look like now, we have a few around in the windows of our local main shops (armadale WA) have been up for over a year

What Hausfrau said. I don't think she's alive, mostly because I don't like to imagine what would be her reality if she is.

I dont like to think that Maddy is still alive.  The probability of her being taken and cared for is less than zero.  I honestly prefer to think of her dead and her spirit moved on, than thinking she is alive and living the hell that stolen children live.

I do have a moment of thinking "those poor parents" everytime a new sighting is mentioned.

I think she is dead.  I think that she  could have been alive for a while but the complete media frenzy ensured her demise.  If that poor little girl was destined for trafficking she would have been too distinctive to keep her alive.  I am not saying the attention her disappearance got was wrong, not at all, but it would have hastened her murder.
Poor littel girl, that poor family - they will never forgive themselves.

i can only hope they find some sort of trace of her, that way her poor parents can finally have some closure. its just such a horrid thing to happen. but now i think about it, it obviously happens waaaay more than we hear about. what on earth is wrong with some people? i hope that wherever she is now, shes safe and knows that her parents havent ever given up on her...
