not supposed to use lubricant

I feel so silly..I had no idea that lubricant kills sperm. I have been trying since November (have had troubles with long cycle) and I'm starting to think maybe this could be a factor. Has anyone been in this situation and had success after going all natural? I have ordered some 'pre seed' so some experiences about that would also be great original.gif

We used preseed wih our last 3 pregnancies.
With #2 we were trying 8 months (using normal lube) then had a MC. Started using preeseed and got pregnant again 2 months later, so i think it helped.
It is better to go all natural but if you need lube then preseed is the way to go.

Emily - thousands of people fall pg using lube every month. It can be a factor but many strong sperm can withstand lube if they can withstand the hostile environment of the vaginal canal.

By all means, to give yourself the best chance by switching to pre-seed - it takes a little getting used to to use the applicator as it is an internal lube, but you'll get the hang of it. But don't stress too much that this is the reason behind it all.  

85% of fertile couples fall pg within the first 12 months of trying and 95% within the first two years. The stats are on your side!  All the best with your TTC journey, hoping everything falls into place for you soon!

You can also use this one, it's cheaper and I can vouch that it works. It is basically the same as preseed, just a different brand.

I just wanted to add that even though preseed is an internal lube if you prefer you can still use it the normal way.

What do you mean? I thought it was proven to have an effect on sperm function. Some lubricants are known to have spermicidal effects, others the PH level is unfriendly to sperm and some just make it hard for the sperm to swim through.

Obviously you can still get pregnant using normal lube but for the best chances TTC I wouldn't use it.

Have you tried using an ovulation predicter kit? I got pregnant really quick once I was timing things right. I have a short luteal phase.

Thankyou everyone, I realise its still possible to get pregnant using normal lube but I was using it everytime and I almost hope this is why :/  

I am starting the OPK's, hopefully things start happening original.gif and best of look to everyone else.

So many things can be a factor.. I have a history of infertility with miss 2yo being IVF and I managed to get pregnant naturally with this bub using the phone app (MyDays - ovulations/period app) and a few other things, it may be coincidence I will never know.  

I think using a sperm friendly lube is a great idea. I would also look into other things that cant hurt. Talk to your doc but I think that low dose asprin also helped prepare my uterus and keep the pregnancy viable. Vitamin D is another thing that Ive heard if your lacking can affect fertility.

Im a firm believer in research and being proactive when it comes to TTC and staying pregnant.

I'd talk to the doctor before trying asprin.  Mainly they use it during TTC and early months if you have recurrant miscarriages.  If you try it make sure you get baby asprin (100 or 80mg) as the stronger stuff can cause problems during pregnancy.

They've proven normal lubricants reduce sperm motility and viability, even at small doses.  How much this effects your chances depends on your partners sperm quality and also your CM (cause EWCM allows sperm to live longer).  So lots of people can concieve with normal lubricants but others find that they need to switch to a sperm friendly one.  So it may be why, or part of why.  Hope you get your BFP.
