Best stain remover? Help!

DD's brand new (white) school socks have a weird stain on them. I don't think it's simply dirt as it's just not budging. It looks suspiciously like a grease stain, though I have no idea how it could be as she's only worn them once, and only at school.
I've soaked them in SARD oxy action, napisan oxy, the liquid napisan stuff and they've been hung in the sun and it's just not moving.
Reluctant to throw them out as they're brand new and $25 a 3pk!

Dishwashing detergent directly on the stain?
That or they're white - just bleach them!

If you think it's grease try some dish washing liquid, that sometimes gets it out
