And if so what shoes do you wear?

I am having a lot of trouble with my chins when walking and from what i am reading its probably got a lot to do with my extreme overpronation

my ankle rolls very similar to the picture on the right.

(note - not looking for medical advise, i know i should go see a specialist... just wanting shoe ideas...)

Asics or Brookes for me.

I couldn't find a standard set of shoes that suited my over pronation as it is different degrees on each leg (as one leg is slightly shorter than the other I think).
I have Asics neutral shoes and custom orthotics.

See a podiatrist original.gif you may need orthotics or a stability shoe could do. I'm an overpronator and have tried asics Kayanos but they're not quite right. Have mizuno wave nirvanas on their way original.gif theres lots of great stability shoes but a podiatrist could tell you for sure what you need.

I have one foot which has no arch to speak of due to a severe injury, thus I pronate. The combination of orthotics and brooks runners are the only shes which work for me (exercising). for day wear, do see a podiatrist, who may recommend orthotics and will be able to give advise on a good stability-type of shoe for everyday wear.

I have extreme pronation in both my feet.  So does my mother and sister.  In our family it leads to knee and hip problems.

I have seen a podiatrist and had custom made orthotics built.  However I never wear them any more.  ph34r.gif   I really need a few new sets of orthotics really.

My ankles turn in mostly but all the ligaments etc have stretched and now my ankles roll either way massively.  What for other people would be a huge sprained ankle is nothing to me.

I agree with seeing a podiatrist....

I don't, but DP does.

He has orthotics that go into his shoes - he's had them for about 5 years now. He alternates them between his sneakers and work boots.

He says it makes a huge difference, not only with his ankles, but his knees as well!

Over pronation causes severe knee & hip pain here until I tried a pair of my mother's Naots for a weekend & it was like magic! I checked these with my Podiatrist & he has said if it's working for me then stay with them.

Bloody expensive shoes although you can find them cheaper on US or UK eBay sometimes.

orthotics

then you just need to find a shoe that they'll fit in

DS ankles almost touch the floor when he stands so he has orthotics. They made a huge difference, he's had them for about 7 years (DS is 12) and he can't walk distances without them.

I had trouble with my knees and went to a physio, he put off the shelf orthotics plus some extra stuff to make them fit better. When I make the kids yearly appointment with the podiatrist I'll get myself a proper pair.

The podiatrist said always wearing a good quality shoe is also important. Whilst DS feet can never be fixed I'm going to try like hell not make them any worse or give him knee problems (like I have) or hip and back problems later in life.

I went to Active Feet in Melbourne (there are a few stores) and they fitted me with Brooks for my over pronation. They are qualified podiatrists there. They get you on the treadmill to diagnose and then fit a shoe- pretty good service.

Otherwise I'd see a podiatrist and get orthotics. Perhaps see a physio too, they will give you exercises to strengthen the muscles to see if that can help correct it too.

Good luck.
