It's Lee-oh-nee. I prefer the spelling Leonie though.

I prefer spelling Leonie too. Knew a lovely lady called Leonie Rose, beautiful name.

It's a pretty name, but the usual spelling of Leonie is, in my opinion, a better choice.

thanks for the replies.

in few baby names website said that it's pronounced Lee-own so I am not quite sure.

Hubby doesn't like Leonie but like Leone but i think he likes the pronouncation Lee-own.

I am wondering how you will say name THEA?

it is: Tay-uh or Thee-uh?

This.  When I saw Leone on the title, I read it as "Lee-own"

I know a Leone, it's spelt this way and pronounced Lee-own.  Le-own-ee is spelt Leonie.

Lee-own....as in the country Sierra Leone

I know Thea is supposed to be "tay-uh" but for some reason my lips just wanted to say "thee-ah"

Thee-uh as in Anthea

If you used it as a middle name, with Sierra first, I'd pronounce it Lee-oh-n, but otherwise I'd say Leonie.

Thea would cause a brief moment of confusion, and I'd probably ask. I know a Thea who pronounces it with a sort of hard "t", but not quite Tay-uh, and I would think that it could well be Thee-ah, so I'd probably pick one at random and/or ask.

Thea I would pronounce as THEE-a.

TE-ah is the German pronunciation.

we are looking for a first name.  middle name is Eloise.

my hubby is dutch and he said that thea is pronounced tay-uh not thee-uh.  but i know australian pronounced names differently from european/asian.

we like:
1. leone
2. thea
3. mavis
4. gretchen

but im not confident with pronouncation of leone and thea now.
