I'm following the rules:

We're thinking of calling him Nimbus, as he looks like a little cloud. He's also already smarter than Grue is, though that's not super hard. He's from a local rescue but he's not adopted officially as they do not adopt out until they are desexed and chipped and he is too underweight for either yet so we are fostering him.

He eats like a warthog.

That'd be the briefness of the meeting. Grue is good-looking and reasonably well-behaved, but Arthur was smarter than her at 9 weeks old, I'm pretty sure. She was hand-raised from 2 weeks old and we think she's missing some "how to be a cat" lessons.

Gotta say Arthur was a bigger attention-whore though. Don't know if he's still like that but he was using his smarts at the time to be a silly s*ut for attention.

ETA: Yeah, I think it will work out better. And he's already in love with my DH. He was fascinated with his facial hair, I don't think he'd interacted with any men before.

Soap holders?  huh.gif

That's my DH's hand, for scale.

He slept quietly through the night (they shared the bed but Grue wouldn't look at him) and they are right now both laying on my sister, Grue does not want him to bounce up to her but no one has clawed anyone, she's just hissed a few times. He meows if he feels intimidated and Grue sprints away if he yells.

Naw tiny kitty! I hope that Grue adjusts to her little brother soon. If she's not too bright, she might be just figuring out what he is, or trying to work out how Roswelle came back tiny and white.

Oooh Oooh!! Tiny!! So adorable. Enjoy your newest family addition!

Right now they're sleeping next to each other!  ohmy.gif

But not touching. If he tries to touch her Grue hisses at him, but apparently he came up to her, she hissed, he sat down next to her, she hissed again, then put her head down and conked out and they're both asleep.

I gave Grue scritches on her head and she jumped for a second making sure it was me not him, but then stretched out purring and now they're still peaceable near each other, less than a foot apart on the guest bed. For not even 24 hours I'm cautiously quite optimistic.

She's not food protective, he's been eating like a wolf, she took two of her toys off him but she has always been one who can't give a damn about food. And he has no interest in fighting, he's less combative than most of the foster kittens had been.

Grue escorts everyone to the bathroom and if you shut her out sits outside it crying. She has  been known to go to sleep in my DH's pants while they're around his ankles on the throne.  huh.gif

She enjoys getting into the shower not while its on but when its freshly off. She also stares at people as they take baths with this wide-eyed, manaical expression, with her front legs on the edge of the tub all "THAT'S WATER WHAT ARE YOU DOOOING?!"

But she's never paid the slightest notice to the soap holder. So maybe Arthur is a bit "special."

It is very possible. I am NOT a cat person. I've said many nasty things about cats in the past. We are getting a rescue kitten (and maybe a rescue kitten's brother or sister?) when we move in a couple of weeks. The kitty cluck has hit HARD.

Oooo such a tiny itty bitty kitty.

My ex used to complain about me baby talking to cats.  Reason 1000 for breakup.

You probably know this already but white cats like to bask in the sun for way longer than dark cats (they take longer to heat up due to the albedo effect lol).

Today Grue is snuffling him all over and they seem to be getting along okay. It helps that he is very, very chill. We intentionally picked him for that since he was both affectionate (most of the other little-ys found "running around outside their crate, diving under the appliances" more interesting than two people they didn't know with no food, and the calmest of the 2 affectionate ones. There was a really darling teeny tiny one much smaller than him, the runt of the litter, but we were a bit concerned about Grue squashing her out of stupidity, and also she was a fidget. Then I'd have two twitchy fidgety girls!

This little boy so far is as cool as a cucumber. Even when Grue was hissing when he came near he'd just blink and bounce off in another direction or sit down and wait it out. Now when she's sniffing she's REALLY in his space (or up his butt) and he's just like "oh. You're...a little off, huh?" but just sits there.

EDIT: sharing a blanket on the couch. They were happier looking before the camera came out, I swear.

He is so sweet.  I just want to reach out through the computer and touch that fluffy kitten fur.

Watch out for the little white ears and nose though, won't you; I lost a white cat to skin cancer  sad.gif

Aside from keeping him inside is there anything else I should do? I haven't tried to keep him from sitting in the sun-puddles on the kitchen floor. Though really he doesn't do it all the time like Grue does.

I bathed him last night. He only weighs about 500 grams and when wet he looks exactly like a white rat, his leg fur goes translucent and he turns this weird pink-white colour. He was NOT a happy catty but a night under wool blankets and he seems to have forgiven us.

#22 *Ker*

Posted 15 April 2012 - 01:26 PM

Glass windows do provide some protection from UV rays, so he'll be fine to sunbathe in the light. Keeping him inside is enough.

You're brave - I haven't attempted to bath the kittens, I like my skin LEFT on my arms.

He was not a happy chappy, but he reeked. The lady who'd been fostering him really tried but with so many cats she had them in crates most of the time and he was in a crate with four siblings and they had that stinky sort of close-quarters pet store smell.

He cried a lot during the washing and my husband had to help me a bit because it took two hands to hold him so more hands to wash him, but he is so tiny we can do it in the sink. Mostly it was just jarring because he looks LITTLE most of the time but he doesn't look spindly, because he's so fluffy. Once wet, you can see his vertebrae and his ribs and stuff and looks like a little skeletal rat kitty.

I labour under the delusion that lots of warm baths as a kitten will make him easy to wash when grown, but it didn't especially work that way for Grue. She doesn't scratch though she just pants and gets all upset.

I think he's already gained some weight since Friday. original.gif

Sorry LDD I didn't mean to worry you unduly and I forgot that Nimbus will probably be indoors much of the time.

My knowledge is very very out of date, but we used to put zinc cream on the cat's ears.  Now that I think of it i wonder if it wasn't quite harmful as he would have ingested it when grooming.  I imagine there are much better ideas about it now - this was in my childhood so a long time ago.  But as far as I know, it still can be an issue for white cats who spend a great deal of time in the sun outdoors.
