Hi,
My DD is 18 months has very little hair, was looking through it today and found she has a grey hair. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is it normal or a sign of something I should be worried about?
Thank you

I googled it. There were some responses that suggested vitamin deficiencies or problems with thyroid etc. Some also suggested that it can just be a genetic tick. Most of the info suggested a trip to the Dr to rule out any problems. This was something I cut and pasted - it sounds a bit freaky, but I think it is just sayng to check thyroid/vitamins.

Good luck!

Gray hair can also accompany a number of uncommon familial syndromes, including neurofibromatosis and tuberous sclerosis.  The most common of these is vitamin B12 deficiency.  Some anemias -- the megaloblastic ones (including the anemia caused by B12 deficiency) -- can produce gray hairs as an early sign.  Several thyroid disorders, particularly hyperthyroidism, reduce melanocyte activity while they are present. Disorders of skin pigmentation, such as vitiligo (which follows the destruction of melanocytes in the skin), can also result in a loss of hair pigmentation. A rare entity called Vogt-Koyanagi syndrome occurs in some children following a viral illness. In an attempt to fight the virus, the body makes antibodies that, unfortunately, also attack the melanocytes.

My little one (17 months) has had a grey hair in the past.  I never took any notice.  Don't know if it is still there.  Must have a look.  If you are worried, take your LO off to the doctor.

One grey hair? I wouldn't worry too much, but mention it to your GP when next there.

My DD2 was born with a tiny patch of silver hair, maybe 30-40 strands, which really stood out as her hair was extremely dark at birth.

No one seemed concerned at the time but she has since been diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 1, (which bubzillaiscoming mentioned in her post)

Puggie,
Is grey hair (different colour hair) a common condition of NF1 as I had not heard that this is, and not seen anything that it is.  My first daughter has NF1 and DD2 is being watched to see if she develops it.
Thank you for info.

From what I have read, a patch of lighter hair can sometimes be connected to NF1. I'd talk to the person/people monitoring your DD2.

Good luck.
