Are there unskilled mining jobs out there? How does one get started?

It is very hard to get work in a mine as a unskilled person, we have ads running on tv here about the employment opportunities that the mines have, they are regarded  as PR drivel for the mining companies. Goodluck but It is generally very hard to get a start in the mines here in QLD.

We're living in a mining town in WA, and they advertise in the local paper for genuinely interested locals for unskilled jobs.  Where we used to live in the NT, they would take on trainee truck-drivers, etc from the local community as well.

A lot of the mining jobs are for unskilled people (skilled labor seems to be a thing of the past), they will train you before you start.

My DH is a truck driver, he can driving any combination of truck so is much sort after and once he is in they don't want him to go. He's now 67 and they want to keep him as long as possible, as they are hard to find.

The company he works for will train you, you just need a truck license, they will train you for Semi's, B-Doubles and Multi-combinations.

So yes it is possible, you just need to ask. The pay is good, and its the only way we have been paying off our debts. We are nearly debt free, besides the mortgage of course.
