Hey there,

My kids are 4 and 7, and they love these ones..

Playschool art maker
Minecraft Lite, and the bought one (they play this on the PC too)
Scibblenaughts (costs a little bit, but great fun for various ages, they can work together)
Drawing pad
iBook creator, I think its called, excellent for making books with your own photos, then you can read them in the ibook reader.
Larry the bird (turn off violence in settings on these ones!)
Cat physics (my four year old loves this one)
Soundrop
Contre Jour
Build a train
Sneezies lite
UnblockMe free
ABC iView (lol)
Fold-Man
Fruit ninja
Italian flash cards
Kahn Academy (all the videos from the web site)

So some cost a little bit, lots of them are free. Start with the free ones and see what they like. My son has speech issues, and finds the iPad great fun, Scribblenaughts got him wanting to type words (digger, he wanted all the time) and eventually learned a few letters on the keyboard. The talking around the games is great, and they are really social things the ipads.

let me know if you have any troubles or want any more advice!

I am a big fan of rED Writing - because it not only is a great handwriting app for letter practice and recognition but it is customisable by state because many of the states have completely different handwriting styles.

I have 4 and 8yo's

DD 4 also likes Preschool Kitty, Preschool Lunchbox and Preschool Adventure but I don't think any of these are Australian.

WilderQuest - Nature Discovery is amazing. You have to stand up and walk around to find and take photos of animals in the bush. It was developed by NSW National Parks & Wildlife. A rep at the Easter show recommended it.

We absolutely adore The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore... worth every cent!
http://morrislessmore.com/

And a really nice and short one for the littlies before bed is Nighty Night! which lets kids go to each of the farm animals, interact with them, switch off the light and say goodnight to them, one by one.

Math 3 to 5 by eurotalk is great.  Covers everything from pattern and colour recognition, to writing numbers.  The first part is free and then you pay for the rest, but my three year old loves it.
