DH & I have been TTC for nearly 8 yrs
Anyway we actively stopped TTC a while ago.
All AC has failed us.

Anyway today MIL told DH that his Step brothers ex wife is happy to be an egg donor if we wanted to pursue that avenue.

Now I am confused...should I avail of this or not? I know this may sound odd to a lot of you but its been 8 years for me and a LOT of emotional heartache and distress. There are no guarantees that this will work and yet I may regret it if i do not try  sad.gif

Also I live remotely and have no idea what the procedure is with egg donation...at this point I would like to have the eggs implanted in myself rather than a surrogate....and do they just take 1 egg from the donor or a few?

Just like an IVF cycle for you, they take as many eggs as they can, grow for five days and see what results.
Lots of counseling required prior.
Had you thought about egg donation prior to this offer?

I had as my FS said my best bet was egg donation but I am an only child and I have no family here in Australia ...MIL said my sister-in-law would probably be happy to give me an egg but...sorry this will sound horrid... I do not want a child that has her genes + its just too close a connection and would be weird so I told MIL not to even mention it.
So if my (lets call her) Step sis-in-law and we agree if they get 5 eggs out of her, would they all be for me? I read that once the eggs are fertilised they cease being the donors and are then the recipients. So should all 5 fertilise and I use 2 ... the remaining would still be available for use, should I need them?

Also what is the cost as wouldnt it be 2 lots of drugs since donor would also be having them and me???

Sometimes having a family member as a donor can cause more tension than happiness as the gift of egg donation is intended. I think you have answered your own question as you said you dont want her genes.  After 8 years i would be placing ads everywhere to find a donor that is not related at all. Any quality good size eggs are fertlitzed then they see what stage they get to then they implant 1 or 2 and freeze the rest. Yes once the eggs are fertilised they are the recipients. Try putting up an ad on www.eggdonationaustralia.com.au - it has 40% donors and is run by donors to help both recipients and potential donors with personal experiences and info.

The genes comment was about using my sister-in-laws eggs (as in hubbys bros wife) that was just TOO close a connection.
This donor is hubbys step dads ex daughter-in-law who I get along with very well and we are pretty close.

I also have another donor who is MILs friends daughter.

It seems we will proceed down this path, just need to think which donor we will use, most likely id say I would use my ex step sis in law
