Well today is day 15........
All is going well, however can barely move after my PT session yesterday.
I have found Parkers ptezels have no sugar added, they contain glucose, but we can have that right!!! Please correct me if I am wrong, as I have eaten a paket of those this week....one of my go to foods, along with cheese, yoghurt and nuts, for when my energy is lacking.

Yay! Finally got to the 'big' Coles and bought 2 large jars of rice malt syrup. Way too excited! May back something this weekend. Any suggestions of nice things (plus recipes) ?

5 days in and Im gaining weight grrrr. I am going to stick with it though as I am finding I dont feel as hungry as I used to. Of to the shops tomorrow to do some more sugar free shoping.

Babybeli I think lots have had that happen so far, it should settle down, just give it a few weeks.

Babybeli, I think I gained a little in the first 4 weeks... since then I've lost around 1kg a week (that's 3 weeks!)
Another 0.8kg since Wed... so that is 1kg this week!

Keep with it!! I was lucky and didn't gain, but I seem to be in the minority.
I'm making sugar free lazy-man's stroganoff for dinner tonight.
Mince, cream, french onion soup, noodles and tinned tomatos. Omnomnom

I was very naughty this weekend! We had visitors and I had pizza on Friday night, and dessert! Today was my Mum's bday and I had mud cake (though my slice was only 1x3x3cm so about 1/4 of what I'd normally have!)
But, tomorrow is a new day and I will be very careful this week. Extra careful, because I am going to be away from Tuesday night until Friday night, so I will take snacks with me, just in case I feel extra hungry because of the sugar this weekend!

Yes, I too have had a bit of a fall from the sugar free wagon.... back on it now though, its very disheartening how quickly it can all turn bad once you go down a tricky path.
Once I start, it does seem to snowball so i am back to dealing with cravings again and feel like crap!!!!
Oh well, we will feel better tomorrow right!

Feeling sick, dying of man flu.
Ate crap yesterday!
Breakfast was weetbix and banana
Lunch was 2 minute noodles
dinner was 1/2 a slice of buttered bread.
Then when I was at choir I ate 3 pieces of a very sweet (but yummy!) rice bubble slice
I am such a twit!
Have eaten tuna pasta this morning for brunch so at least I've had something resembling nutritious food today! I just lost the will to eat yesterday, and the slice was just so easy to consume

I went to see a friend today who didn't know about the sugar free thing. she had made chocolate slice. i had a small piece. i was surprised! i expected to want to eat more and more but i was ok. left it at that and although i wished i didn't eat it i am ok about it. we had ham rolls for lunch... she didn't buy cheese cause she was feeling fat! oh well. i was fine the rest of the day.
had my muesli with a small banana, yogurt and milk. a handful of corn chips for morning tea. coffee with my roll for lunch. then tea and a piece of choc slice. then had one of my homemade hot cross buns with another tea. i made pork rissoles (with veg hidden) and rice for dinner.
i'm honestly stuffed! off to the gym to do a body attack class (like aerobics). will probably have a glass of milk when i get home.

Hi everyone, hope you don't mind if I join. I had my first sugar free day today and made it through! Wanted something sweet after lunch - by 3.30pm the cravings were pretty intense. I was soooooo close to buying a chocolate frog, but had a herbal tea instead and that helped quite a bit. Now of course I feel like I deserve a reward!
So I'm wondering what people "snack on" to get through those afternoon cravings? Nuts? Tea? I don't eat dairy so cheese it out.
Looking forward to any other tips you may have to manage the cravings - how long do they typically last?

nuts, bbq shapes (if u don't mind the veg oil... i had them to get through the cravings), plain chips cooked in palm oil, plain corn chips, sanitarium peanut butter sandwich, soy cream cheese with vegemite... the list goes on

I stalk this thread regularly and would just like to know if anyone here uses or knows if it is ok to use natvia sweetener, I found it at Coles and tastes pretty good actually and apparently is natural with very little calories. Just want to make sure it's ok to use, I just put it in my tea and sometimes cook with it.

I have a packet of xylitol in the cupboard, which a naturopath recommended to me as a sugar alternative in baking. It doesn't cause the sugar spikes so is often used by diabetics. I haven't seen it mentioned in these threads, does anyone use it? Wondering if I can use it now or wait until I am through the withdrawal period?

stevia based sweeteners are on the 'you choose' list in the book. we found a cordial that uses stevia so it makes a good treat. generally we use dextrose to sweeten coffees etc or rice malt syrup.
there have been links to artificial sweeteners making u eat more overall as the body thinks it has consumed calories but hasn't so asks for more.
cutting out fructose isn't about cutting calories.
loveyourwork - i have never been a big packet chip fan. my kids like them and since i am not as hungry i have a nibble and am happy to pass! bbq shapes are my least fav flavour. i bought a few other flavours that are low in sugar but not quite as low as bbq.

Welcome Loveyourwork and Shizella. LYW about the snacks, I eat nuts, cheese and vitaweat crackers, big drink of water, stuff like that. I have found since giving up sugar I get barely any cravings, esp the 3o'clock ones, so Im not as 'snacky' as I used to be.
About the artificial sweeteners I steer clear of them, just easier to be sugar free in my mind. I use dextrose and rice malt syrup as alternatives. But I dont use them much anyhow.

I had a treat yesterday, I made desserts with dextrose, funnily enough that by the time it came to eating them with extended family I was tired but ate it anyway. Gotta say dextrose isnt as sweet as refined sugar, so it doesnt make me want more and more. Good thing though I think. My DH really misses the sugar, he was really pleased to see dessert! I have the Bulla icecream and he eats a lot of that these days.

Hi I need some advice on the book that is advertised here if anyone has it.http://sweetpoison.com.au/wordpress/?page_id=33 is it worth paying extra for the subscription or just buying the book? I am wanting to buy this book today and im not sure whether i should add the subscription too, so i thought i would ask here first.
just to add... Is it best to buy the sweet poison quit plan too

I purchase the Sweet Poison,however i think the Quit Plan gives more information, specifics on what is ok and not OK to eat.
I dont have a subscription to the site, but i do subscribe to the Sarah Wilson Site!
I am back on the wagon after a couple of slip ups and the cravings are nowhere near as bad...perhaps it is working after all!

A giving up sugar support group! AMAZING! Plus just what I need! I am 30 weeks pregnant tomorrow and my 28 week blood test for gestational diabetes was elevated. Not enough that I have to self inject daily thank goodness, but still have to cut back on sugar and since I've been pregnant, it's the only thing I've wanted! If anyone could give me some sugar-free, or low sugar recipes for desserts or sweet treats that would be amazing! I recently found a drinking chocolate at Woolworths that is amazing! It's called 'Vitarium 100% Natural Sugar Free Drinking Chocolate' and it's delicious and also 98% fat free
