Hi everyone! I'd like to buy some building blocks for my DS (7yo) that aren't Lego? I'm in the New England area of NSW so I need someone who stocks locally. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

The only other buidling blocks I have seen are targeted at younger age groups say age 2.
Why not lego?

I've got a couple of sets of the COGO blocks - they're similar to Lego (actually I think they're compatible with Lego - don't know if that's going to be a problem if you don't want Lego) and they come in sets that allow you to build specific things like racing cars and helicopters. Both my son and daughter like them. I don't know if anyone sells them in New England, but I bought mine online from this company in Queensland and they shipped to me: http://basementbargains.com.au/childrens-t...building-blocks
Hope that helps.

If you mean building blocks that clip together you could try Mega Blocks which are another alternative to Lego, you can get them online (http://www.mytoyworld.com.au/mega-bloks-c-1_289.html). There are some sets that are just a big box of blocks.
Hasbro has also recently released a range called Kre-o, these are available everywhere but have recieed a luke warm response.

Do they specifically have to be blocks or do you want something that just clips together.
You could try Magnetix or Zoobs.

The 'Trio' block system from Fischer Price is a bit easier than Lego, but more challenging than Megablocks or Duplo. Problem is that it doesn't seem to be stocked that much in shops anymore - not sure if they are phasing it out? In any case, DS has lots as does his cousin and they love it and play with it heaps. It is good from 3 to 4 years plus and you can do lots of things with it.
You can certainly still buy it online.
