sling to wear bub on hip or back

Can anyone advise me on the confusing array of slings out there. DD does not always like her pram and likes to be cuddled as we walk. But oh she's a heavy girl for me. I'd love to get a ling as I'm sure she'd love it.
heres what I need:
I'm short and DH is tall
DD is 10.5kg
I want to wear her on my hip or back hands free
I hope someone can shed some light on this. I have only used Bjorn's and they are not comfortable to wear when bubs gets heavier.

I am useless with my sling (I think I just need someone experienced to show me how to use it) but I am going to get an Ergo carrier shortly. From what I have read about it, you can use it for front, hip and back carrying. It also gets rave reviews from mums here on EB. My Bubbamoe sling can also be used all three ways too, but I can't work out how.
I have to retire my Bjorn as well. I am only smallish, and my 9.5kg boy is just to big to hang off my front now.

I've got an Ergo, and love it! My DS is now about 10kg, and I can wear him on my front in it for ages with no pain - and I've got a really bad back, as do many mums.......
It's also great on the side and back, once you get the hang of it. I wish I'd skipped the Baby Bjorn and got this in the first place. Can't recommend it enough! The only down side is that bubs can't face outwards on the front, but DS has never minded that.

The ergo looks great but what about something I can shove in my nappy bag or in the pram basket?

I'd get a ring sling if you both want to wear her, as it is adjustable for different sizes.
I'd get a pouch if it's just for you. They are sized and very compact in the nappy bag. I'm not sure how secure they would be for back carries.
A mei tai is great for back carries and would fold up quite small.
Bear Hug Baby has a great range of different types of carriers more reasonably priced than the Ergo.

For transportability a pouch is great as you can fold it up small and throw it in the nappy bag. Many people have success with them, however I don't like how it has to be spread across my whole upper arm and I have limited use oif that arm. Not quite as portable (but still handy to throw in the bottom of the pram in the basket as I do when out in the city for the day) is the baba sling. I absolutely adore my baba sling and wished I got it from the start rather than when DS was 4m old, as he hated sitting upright in my kapoochi carrier and when he would finally do it, he was too heavy for me.
I find that the bab sling is handy not only as a backup for those times when ds has had it with the pram, but also if I am ducking in to the newsagent, butcher, green grocer, post office, whatever, doing quick errands where it's too much of a hassle to get the pram out but I still need two hands to sign for a credit card etc. Tonight I had to get a birthday card for my niece, and after getting my meat from the butcher, I had to go back to the car to get the sling as my arm was already dropping off, and wouldn't last while I hunted for a card at the newsagent as well!
DS is 11kgs and I find it more comfortable to wear him for 10mins than hold him. I tend to do the chest to chest carry most often with his legs dangling out, but can also do a semi recline still (just) for times when he's tired and once he nods off it's easy to unclip the sling and lay him in the pram. I am just starting to experiment with him on the hip now, and havewn't tried the back carry yet, but there are instructions on how to do it on the baba sling website. My baba sling is the best baby item I have ever bought!

we have a ramalama hip carrier for our DS 13 months and 12kg and love it. Its leather and suede and very comfortabe and portable rolls up to about the size of a large purse. DS looks very comfortable and its adjustable to. My friend has a quinny curbb carrier and she adores that for her 9 month old DD. Have a look at www.ramalama.com.au
hope this helps
