We’ve been having your abc radio instead of our regular, because of stupid cricket. I’m quite liking Anna Vidot, but I am most fascinated, and a little bit horrified by the images of your Sky Whale.

Warning, images in link are a bit urky. You won’t be able to unsee them.

So, do you like it? And are you happy it is breeding?

No we can’t sorry. There is no explanation.

While I am all in favour of public art, Canberra does seem to choose the very worst of it. I'm with Lallalla, there is no explanation or excuse.

Google the Belconnen Owl if you haven't already, then get back to me with what you think of it, and whether you did the same puerile giggling I did the first few times I drove past it...

Well Jane Jetson, I see a penis or Voldemort crossed with a maggot.

Like wow. Oh god.

Well I am a skywhale fan. I love that a serious and acclaimed Australian artist got to make such a public piece of art. Certainly brings are to the masses. Can't wait to see Skywhalepapa too.
Loving or hating skywhale is an important identity issue in Canberra I believe.

That’s not a whale. Neither of those things are whales.

Apparently the owl has a brother owl.

 *snort* Penis owls.

Byron Bay has some sort of spikey phallic sculpture until recently.

Aww, I like the owl.

Skywhale on the other hand, yeah, no explanation, no excuse.

I didn't even stretch it as far as Voldemort, so you did better than me!

Apparently we all need to be reminded of that one time some ex-boyfriend couldn't uh, perform properly, while on the way to work in the morning...

I am dreadful and call it the Softcock Owl and DH tells me I am crass, hahaha

It must be. I thought I was hearing the name incorrectly.. sky well?

That’s pretty good too.

Oh, I quite like the Byron Disco Dong. Has a bit of a Playschool Rocket Clock look to it. Shame it is no longer erect...

The brother owl is also a little better than that sad silly thing on Belconnen Way.

I neither love nor hate the Skywhale and its relatives, to be honest. My reaction is more "WTF" and "This is why I failed Year Eight Art, I don't understand this sh*t".

It looks like a Vogon with 4 big breasts.

If it appeared in your backyard, you'd be grabbing the shovel.

I will defend the owl with the last breath in my body.

Besides, everyone is fond of owls.

Ds2 loves the owl.  He gets upset if we drive in that direction and don't go past.  Me not so impressed.  There's also the mental sculpture on the way up to Gungahlin that I've referred to as optimus primes pubes.

Eta: just saw it was already posted.

There are some very weird songs on that channel! I fell down the YouTube hole and ended up at The Duck Song. I'm now eating grapes. :ninja:

I dislike the fact that the ACT government spent $300 thousand dollars on Skywhale and we don't even get to keep it!

It's come out maybe twice since it was created. And how on earth it has ANYTHING to do with Canberra I'll never understand.

I do not like Skywhale and it's 10 boobs.

It's Canberra. What can you say? Its the capital of Australia but no one else in the world or it's own country could answer that in a pub quiz. It's hidden between beautiful country where its citizens escape to every weekend. A whale. Fits right in.
