So I used to purchase albums and single songs on iTunes onto my phone and listen to them but now it’s not available.

Where or how do you purchase online music from? I dont want to pay a subscription like Spotify as I don’t own it I’m looking for somewhere I can download into my phone or iTunes etc .. happy but cds but first just a song here or there I liked the easiness of it..

What do you do?

If your local library has a Freegal subscription you get 4 song downloads per week that the library pays for (plus streaming).

Personally I just use Spotify, I don't need to own it.

Umm you can still buy songs and albums in iTunes.

I did it like 5 minutes ago!

We mostly use Apple Music - I think it’s pretty good value and we can get most of what we want.

Every time I try and open app it won’t work, plus I read an article saying they aren’t using iTunes anymore...

I’m confused..

Have you updated your phone/iPad/Mac whatever it is you are downloading the music on?   And updates the App as well?

iTunes changed its name to Apple Music, but all our tunes are still in there.

ETA.  Here’s a good article about the changes. https://support.appl.../en-au/HT210200

What iPhone and iOS are you using? Is the phone and apps all updated?

I've got iTunes on my iPhone 8+ on iOS13.

I use Apple Music but iTunes is separate to Apple Music and I can still purchase songs and albums in that app.

My phone is a iPhone XR and I have iOS13.2.

PP. All my apps changed on my phone and iPad.  If I click on the iTunes symbol it says Apple Music at the top of the screen.

Clarifying. There is still the iTunes Store app (new purple star icon) where I can buy the music, but it’s accessed to play via Apple Music (looks like the old iTunes icon with two notes)

iOS 13 on iPhone 8.. purple iTunes app says can’t connect.
I will look into it.

Can you use Spotify without paying for anything?

I'd try shutting down the phone and restarting it. I've found the iOS 13 update to be kind of buggy.

Also, make sure you've allowed the iTunes app. Go to Settings, the Screen Time, then Content and Privacy Restrictions, then Allowed Apps. Make sure iTunes is marked as allowed.

So ITunes Store is the app that won’t work.

So now I have to access music via music app in the apple play section that cost $11.99 month? No fair

This happened to my DH, took him ages to figure out but it was this!

Charli73: No, you don't have to pay. Try restarting your phone, try deleting and reinstalling the iTunes app, check the restrictions and allowed apps on your phone like I outlined, and if none of that works try checking the Apple forums for answers.

Will try this first. The restrictions part is all greyed out so I will have to figure out how to do all this also..

Thanks everyone.

I literally just bought 6 songs using the iTunes Store app. Now I can play them from the Music app.

I did it on my ancient iPad (latest iOS update).

Yes you can use Spotify without paying but its very limited on a phone. The free version on a laptop has way more features.

You get all the features on a phone if you pay.
