So family holiday planned but our flight has been cancelled and delayed 24 hours, kids are so upset and it’s really very annoying..

We’ve lost a day in Singapore and I need to let hotel know. Can I claim on insurance for a lost night at hotel which is more than my excess? Is there a anything else I should consider?

Never had to claim in flight insurance so do I claim now or when we get home?

Is the hotel a 100% no refund booking?

You usually have to ask for a refund, but that's the small print in mine, may not be in yours.

Have a look at the wording of the insurance.

That is very annoying, and I'm sorry your kids are upset.

Hotel had already been paid for and would be non refundable.. we’re just glad it’s at home end and not OS.
My DS has ASD so last minute changes aren’t great, but he’s ok so far.

I would put the clam in now. The excess unfortunately applies to each separate 'claim' (but not for separate aspects of the same claim) in any that I've seen.

Flights cancelled for a second day in a row so glad I didn’t claim yesterday.. will wait and see if our next one is cancelled too.

Well there's a good reason to wait a bit, although you'd hope they'd see it as part and parcel of the one claim, I'm not convinced they would.

That's terrible Charli73.

what's the reason for the cancellations? Is there any compensation from the airline?

It will depend on the reason for the cancellation and there are a lot of exceptions.

Some are only claimable after 48 hours too not 24.

First was operational reasons second is engineering issues.

When we've had flight changes (and every second flight we've had them but only ten, fifteen minutes or so, that seems to happen a lot) they say that if the new flight times don't suit you, you can change your flight without penalty within x hours.

Not much help if there's nothing you can change it to, of course, but have you had a look?

Airlines on compensate when you are away from home.

They don't typically do it when you are still at home, yes that doesn't help when you have loss accom on the holiday but thats what travel insurance is for.

Sorry OP that your trip is delayed.

They have found us another flight but it’s not direct and have a 5 hour wait overnight at the airport, not even enough time to find us a hotel because Jetstar say they can’t even guarantee they will find us a room as we’re home now they won’t look.

Insurance says to claim all as one when we get home as it’s still ongoing (we haven’t even got there yet) so as the event is linked it will be one claim.

Hopefully leave tonight, my ASD DS so far coping ok.. DH not so much..

Oh. Jetstar. Good luck!

Good luck tonight, Charli. You'll breathe a sigh of relief once you're onboard.

I saw a Jetstar flight had to turn back due to a cracked windscreen in the last day or so.  I should imagine just one incident like that has an impact on their schedule for the next few days, especially a low cost carrier.

Must admit I was holding my breath when I sent my daughter & boyfriend to Phuket for an early Christmas present with them. All went to plan, fortunately, and I hope yours goes swimmingly from now on.

I am never flying Jetstar again! We got home from Bali last week - took us over 30 hours to get home because Jetstar delayed and then cancelled our flight. Crap all compensation.
