Hi all,

I have an idea of something I'd like to do for work (as a teacher) - I'd like to be able to record my computer screen (ie, a powerpoint on the screen) and my face at the same time, explaining an activity etc (via webcam etc).

I know it's possible, for example, streamers on Twitch do it, but I don't know what the program is to do it - does anyone know?

The easiest way to do it would be recording a Skype conversation where you’re sharing screens. You can record, them publish the output as an .mp4. You probably need some kind of pro version of Skype to do that, but that’s cheap for a short term subscription maybe $10 I think.

Zoom is another free program I believe, haven’t used it but I know it’s used for some screencast type things.

There are a lot of different types of software - if you look at relearning or virtual learning software you can get some ideas. Some have subscription methods available so u could just buy a months worth if it’s a one off thing. Things like Camtasia, and Captivate.

If you work for an education department your departmental training department probably has some stuff. If they do any webinars you could see what they use?

Try snag it...cheap version of camtasia (made by same company) and easy to use. There’s a free trial, too. You can also trial camtasia for free for 14 days.

Free ones:
screencast-o-matic - basic but effective
OBS studio - has reasonable editing capability for a freebie

There’s heaps of them out there. I do a lot of this in an educational setting, flick me a PM if you need help.

Thanks heaps! I'm giving snagit a crack, and that's really easy. I think the only thing that I can't work out is having the webcam show me on the screen at the same time as I'm, say, talking through a powerpoint.

I really appreciate the help, it's working as planned!

You should be able to set it to record webcam and screen, but in snag it you’ll have to toggle between webcam and screen recording, which I dont think is what you quite want from your pp.

Screencast-o-matic will allow you to record screen and webcam simultaneously, so will Camtasia.
