I'm wondering about the name Magnus? (Nickname would be Gus)

Do you know any? What is your thoughts and impressions of this name?

I don't know any and just trying to get a feel for it. Thanks

I don’t know any but I’m not a fan.
I like Gus or Angus.

Nope. Angus if you want a Gus.

Magnus is a name which could become troublesome on a child, especially if you end up small of height or excess weight.

It seems stumpy to me. I can't explain that any further!

I know the name from the movie Matilda. I have never known one in real life.

I honestly don't like it.

Yes this,

If you have a nickname already why not just use that?

I love it. For me it's like other currently cool names like Felix, Rufus, Fergus,Theodore, Sebastian. It has a strong tradition in Scandinavian countries and Scotland.

I also think it's a great way to Gus nickname.

I know several but it's a common name where I'm from.

Love Gus. Love Magnus.
Will say hearing my DH say it with an Australian bogan style accent did put me off using it a bit.

Love Magnus. Makes me think of the Riftwar Saga. Don't suppose you're a Raymond E. Feist fan by any chance? It's different but not totally out there.

Gus is great too.

Too much like magnet to me.

Love Angus though.

I know 2 Magnus', one is 7 and one is under 12 months. Not my style but knowing kids with that name helps me like it :)
I think people will be divided on a name like that, but if you love it, go for it.

I know a little Magnus. Nothing wrong with it.

I don't think you really get Gus out of it though. Magnus does not have a Gus sound in it.

I prefer Angus, Fergus and Marcus to Magnus. Or even August or Augustus is better than Magnus.

I have not met any in real life.

Not a great fan of it nor do I see Gus as a' natural' nickname.

I think people would tend to Mags as a nickname.

If u want Gus as nickname use Angus.

Not really a fan of Gus but if you like it it's a stand-alone name. Another possibility,if you like the Scandi names, could be Gustave.

I don't mind Magnus, not a name I'd use but I don't hate it either. And I'm probably in the minority and don't mind Gus as a nickname.
