Morning,

What comes to mind when you see "HJ" together?

If the name you like plus your surname would be initials "H.J." -- would you use it?

We are worried it would be recognized as an abbreviation for a lude act...

First thing that comes to my mind - this person has names that start with H and J.

Dont overthink it

I didn't actually even think of that until I read the bottom line of your post. So no, I don't think people automatically associate with that.

Didn’t even think of that. That is our 5yo DS’s nn sometimes as his first and middle names start with those letters.

I didn’t think of anything rude, at a stretch Hungry Jacks?
No one pays attention to initials, or middle names, or names in general...
Dont overthink it! Just use whatever name you love..

BJ is more likely to be recognised as something else, not HJ.

I saw Hungry Jacks... but when are initials ever really written like that. I can't think of a situation where I have ever just written my or my kids initials on something.

Hungry jacks leaps to mind but not any sort of lewd act.

Agree with AdelTwins, BJ is more likely to be recognised, but I probably wouldnt recognise unless someone pointed it out. In fact, one of my dad's close friends was B J Foley and they often referred to him as such (long story as to why!) and the other possible meaning never occured to anyone. HJ is just ordinary initials to me.

I had to really stop and think of what it could stand for that would be unsavory or embarrassing. Yes I did think of the lewd act you are thinking of, but I had to really ponder it, it was not the first thing to come to mind.

One of our DD's has a name similar to Amelia. Before she was born, dh got confused and told a few people we were thinking of using Amelia as a name. A couple thought it was awful as the first thing they thought of was Amelia Feel-ya and said they'd be teased. I would have never in a million  years thought of that!(Yes they were male friends)

My maiden name had the initials H.J. It was never an issue. BJ I would avoid, H.J. I wouldn’t worry

Nah, the act never crossed my mind until you brought it up.

My first thought was of The Simpsons.  Because I'm a walking pile of pop culture references.  I though of the scene where Homer suggests Bart change his name to Homer Junior. "The kids could call you HoJu."

dont know about it being a lewd act - it’s a sexual act! “head job” is an association people will make with those initials, but as others have said, more likely BJ. but i wouldn’t let it worry me.

I thought of Hungry Jacks as well

I couldn’t think of what it could stand for until I read the last sentence in your post. It’s a non issue I believe.

HJ is fine. Not even close to a BJ.

Oh.  Head job.  I didn't even get there.  All I thought of was hand job.

There you go OP, two sexual references for the price of one.

Still neither of them would have come to mind if you hadn't mentioned it.

DSs mate is referred to by his initials BJ. I always muse over that and move on. HJ wouldn’t even rate a second thought in my mind.

HJ Holdens, if I had to say something. Nothing else came to mind.

BJ is the more common acronym round here.

I wouldn’t worry a bit about H.J. initials.

I agree with this. And I still wonder why my nephew has BJ as his initials...

When I thought about it I assumed hand job too, not head job but hungry jacks was my first thought. Even then it wasn’t automatic. I’d use it.

My son is HJ, my husband is DJ and my SIL is JC.

The JC one gets the most comments.

No one says they are going to give a HJ, it’s not like BJ.

Hungry jacks cane to my mind but other than that, you are overthinking it!

I was trying to work out the issue from the title. Like other PP’s it wasn’t until I read your concern that it came to mind camp overthink it.

FTR I have a BJ it was mentioned once by DH whilst pregnant.
