Hi everyone!

We are expecting bub #2 in April and struggling with names. Our son is Reuben Rex.

We like traditional or unique names that are currently not very common. We love Evelyn faith but worried it's too common (I'm a teacher and prefer uncommon!)

Middle names with be faith or Joan for a girl and Percy or James for a boy.

Any help with names would be amazing please!

Evelyn is pretty but rather popular.

I like its rhythm, less popular three-syllable names that end in n are Vivien, Merewen, Gwendolyn, Lillian (but Lily is very popular) Imogen, Joscelin/Jocelyn, Jessamine, and Rhiannon.

As far as less popular E names I like Eulalie, Esther, Enid, Emerald, Evangeline, Emmeline, Evanthe. Evie is a very popular nickname but I do like it.

For a boy with Reuben I like
Cyrus and Silas

Thanks everyone. It's so hard to name a baby! So many great suggestions.

I like Vivienne but which is the more common or traditional spelling? Vivienne or Vivian?

Vivienne is the French and Vivian the English. Vivienne is currently very stylish. In the US at least, Vivian has the more consistent use across the last 100+ years and is far more common. (Not sure about in Oz) But people certainly know Vivienne.

I like both but Vivienne is a bit more feminine and Vivian feels very straight-forward.

It's a sibling for a Reuben, won't be Reuben James or anything Reuben.

I'm going to say Reuben and Emmett James if the Bible names thing isn't a theme you like. I love both those names. (Most of the other boys names I listed were Biblical, if you don't mind that)

And Reuben and Vivian for non-Biblical and Keziah, Hannah, or Esther for Biblical. Either Faith or Joan works but Faith is so pretty and seems much rarer than Grace/Joy?

I think mentioning James worked as an auto suggestion on a lot of PPs. And I know it's a sibling, but if someone told me their kids' names were Reuben and James I'd still assume they had a pretty serious Kenny Rogers thing happening.

And curse them for the earworm :;):

I think Evelyn is lovely. I wouldnt worry too much about the supposed popularity of a name as something that is common in one area may not feature in another.

Names that do feature prominently tend to become diluted as children move into bigger and bigger circles. My DS had five boys with the same given name in his pre-school class of 12 boys, then three in primary school, two in high school and now only one other in his group of mates.

The bottom line: pick a name you like for your child.
