Firstly:

WELCOME BACK TO THE PHOTO CHALLENGE

This week's photography challenge is "treescape".

With the change in season it might be a good opportunity to capture  the change in seasonal tree colour or the starkness of a tree that has not seen leaves for some time. Or maybe the sun peaking out through the trees as sunrise and sunset times change... Snow captured on a snow gum, glistening under the winter sun... Something treeish anyway. Anyone getting a snap of an Ent gets extra points.

(ETA) If you can't get out in the next couple of weeks to take a picture but have one suitable in your portfolio (my fancy way of saying Flickr account), that is acceptable to put up as an entry.

To give people time to choose an entry, closing day will be Wednesday 31 May (subject to extension in case participants want more time)

The details:

Remember the EB rules state images within posts must be smaller than 500 (wide) x 470 (high) pixels and 100kb. Or just post the link to your Flickr account.

SAY CHEESE!

Does the photo have to be taken during the challenge period?

Thanks Katpaws

Topsy Turvy normally the photos are supposed to be taken within the challenge timeframe. As this is the first challenge for a while it is up to Katpaws and what she will accept. If you have a photo that you would like to enter please do and see what Katpaws thinks.

Happy photographing

Hi - happy to accept photos taken in the past (excluding ones entered in the photography challenge before) if people can't get out to take some. Sorry I was not explicit before - my excitement with the comp starting again got the better of me!

If I was eligible to enter this would be my picture:

In the last few challenges I think we opened it up to photos taken at any point just to take the pressure off.

I can't find this question anywhere so I'm sorry if it's been asked before..  Are we able to use iPhone pics or is it camera photos only?

Ta. Great challenge too katpaws

As far as I know any medium that takes pictures is fine. I hope so, because most of my pics are from a Samsung phone!

There was never previously any restrictions over what type of camera you used, its all about the photo and whether your entry fits the theme.

Well, as I said, I'm going camping this weekend so will probably come away with lots of luverly tree shots, but I'll enter this one taken with my Iphone!

(I hope this works, its been a long time since I've done a share here via Flickr...).

I haven't taken one single photo this week so this is from the archives sorry!  This was taken on our family holiday over christmas just gone, in Canada.  Taken from the car window if I remember rightly!

Hi Everyone

Here is my entry, I am sorry it is late. Our internet was down from mid afternoon yesterday until after 11pm. I had spent the morning choosing and sorting photos and when I returned later in the day I was unable to access any of it. So I understand if you decide this entry is too late.

Peanut I loved your photo, esp in black in white.

A pocketful, I love the way that your photo shows the contrast of the snow, possibly looking bleak and then the colour with the trees, like wall.

Katpaws does 'ent' mean entrant?

Hope everyone has a great day

Mightn't hurt to hold it open until after the weekend katpaws, some people only get the chance to look at the landscape then!

EXTENSION TIME FOR ENTRIES - entries can be still put in until Friday 6 June.

An ent is a tree from Lord of the Rings (the walkie talkie ones).

Can we advertise the comp in WDYT????

There you go. Treeish :)

I like your idea katpaws.  Plus it would be great for people to know they can post a pic straight from their phone too!  Makes it a bit easier for the busier ones.

Also I think the date is wrong, did you mean the 3rd or the 10th June?

Nicole (Nut) - love your 'treeish'  awesome perspective.

megmog - don't you just love the autumn colours at the moment! So nice.  Again another creative perspective. I'm such a straight on girl...  Definitely need to get more adventurous with perspective.

Peanut - loving the light.  I'd love to see the colour version too!  Such a beautiful spot.

Katpaws - Amazing contrast!  Do you mostly take landscape pics?  I'm hopeless with landscapes.

I was seeing if anyone else had entered... will announce a winner soon (sorry busy at work atm) and i want a special guest judge to help me.

Hi, A Pocket Full. My phone camera isn't the best so I usually take pics of nature not people and generally not landscapes but i have a thing for trees and their textures. The picture is taken on Mt Hotham during a light rain storm.

what do you think katpaws, time for a new challenge?

#22 katpaws

Posted 15 June 2016 - 11:24 AM

Give me till tonight. I wanted someone help me decide the winner. Pls accept my apologies - was away on the weekend (not for pleasure) and busy working on my thesis!

All entries very treey!!! And all very good.

Peanut - very evocative treescape. It felt very old, like a Victorian picture. There are some interesting shapes/shadows in the photo (one looks like a nymph).

Apocketful- sorry but your picture left me cold! Reminded me of the cinematography from the Revenant. Very dramatic.

MegMogandFeistyCat - true beautiful autumn colours. The contrast beautiful.

Nut - Reminded me of the Conjuring! Felt very dark to me (as in emotionally dark, if that makes sense) - also a very evocative picture.

Katpaws - what a great picture - you win! umm oops that's me. Darn it; i can't give myself the win (can i???).

All the pictures were very evocative and conveyed - well to me - feeling/emotion; most excellent work. Drum roll... the winner is... t-t-t-dum!

Peanut!
