Has the new SNS MaxiRider been improved in terms of side-impact protection compared to the version that was used in the CREP testing? (series 8000 versus series 8100).
What should I look for in an untested car seat for "good" side impact protection?

No, what you see on CREP is what has been tested. I'd be looking for an adjustable headrest, which the MR has.
