Have you ever watched a show everyone *raves* about it and just....didn't get it.

For me I think it's Arrested Development.  I find it amusing, but almost a full season in and I don't think I've laughed out loud more than three times.  I can see it's well written, but it leaves me cold.

Big Bang Theory!

I am conflicted because I get it but it does absolutely zero for me. I know I am the black sheep in my family for feeling this way. original.gif

Lost. I was lost very lost.

Downtown Abbey

Packed to the rafters and that other one with the 4 women.

Yes I find that with a LOT of American programs I just cant get into them.

Boston Legal, West Wing, House, CSI anything, The Mentalist, etc etc etc

Also most of the reality TV genre have passed me by - Big Brother, any of the cooking programs that came after Jamie Oliver. Home building/renovation programs I can watch.

Come to think of it, I generally don't watch much that isn't on ABC or SBS with the current exception of Downton Abbey.

Well after last year's logies a friend and I were discussing how between the two of us we had managed to watch one of the winning shows.

Just one.  (And I had actually watched 0)

So I'm guessing - most!

People are always surprised I don't watch all those 'My kitchen master chef rules' things as I am so obsessive about cooking.

I would rather poke pins in my eyes.

Really.

Nothing with 'fake tension' or overly drawn out drama....   *makes spitting noise*  I like FOOD!  Not reality TV.

agree
I'm not into any of the Masterchef shows, the Block, the Lounge Room (is that what it's called?)

I do like Arrested Development. For me it's the kind of show I can just drop in on and whatever crazy is happening at the time I can find amusing. Don't need to follow the whole series

Arrested Development.... Poker in my eyes. I'm a sarcastic person. I like irony and black humour. I still don't like this show.

The Mentalist. Just don't get it at all.

Downton Abbey..... Ugh.

Anything reality but ESPECIALLY Big Brother and Survivor.

Actually, scrap that.... I find Here Comes Honey Boo Boo hilarious in a very wrong sort of a way. Like a train wreck really.

Private Practice is another one. I have friends who rave about it. Can't see it personally.

Big Bang Theory and Modern Family are two of the best American sitcoms in years. I'm also a huge Wilfred fan and for once the American series is actually funnier than the original.

The Big Bang Theory.  I just stand there with a deadpan face wondering why anyone would laugh at such contrived, obvious OTT humour.

The Mentalist

And most of all.......The Simpsons.

Oh just thought of another one, how could I forget, it is my most HATED show on TV....

FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS.

Not funny.  At all.  One little bit.

Anything that could be classed "reality television" ... Never watched any of the big brothers, never watched master chef, so you think you can dance, Australian funniest home videos.....I don't want to watch real people, in every day situations, If I am watching TV I either want to be informed (news) or entertained...and for me this is watching skilled actors acting out a good story....

Eta...the West Wing is TV drama at its best..brilliant dialogue, brilliant acting, brilliant story line. The Newsroom is also very good. Two and a Half Men is woeful, and I find it very difficult to like or respect anyone who likes that show!

Anything where "Underbelly" is in the title.

Absolutely Big Bang Theory - it is beyond my understanding that it is so popular.

How I Met Your Mother - so bad.

The Good Wife - she is appalling.

Yet people whose opinions I respect love them!

Seinfeld, I just never once found it funny I just cant stand it
It feels like I'm the only person in the history of forever to hate this show!

#13 MuppetGirl

Posted 09 February 2013 - 12:44 PM

The Simpsons. I have never understand the appeal of that show.

Lost. The first season was semi decent. The rest were just OTT.

Dexter. I find it a littel disturbing at how many of those people close to me LOVE that show. Do I have some closet serial killers around me wink.gif

Grimm

Agree with Big Bang Theory, but not sure I've really seen enough to know for sure.

One lesser known show, but Freaks and Geeks.  Critics love it etc.  I found it completely boring and uninspired.

#16 BadCat

Posted 09 February 2013 - 12:47 PM

Modern Family - predictably stereoptypically unfunny
Revenge - It's Bold and the Beautiful in prime time

#17 PixieVee

Posted 09 February 2013 - 12:47 PM

Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men. Sexist rubbish.

The Mighty Boosh *shudder*

#18 Jenferal

Posted 09 February 2013 - 12:48 PM

I never got into:
Lost
Downton Abbey(but am enjoying Upstairs downstairs)
Frasier
Simpsons
Seinfeld(it really WAS a show about nothing).
Any soap opera(neighbours etc)
Any CSI spin off(but like the original).
As stated above, anything with Underbelly in the title.
i could go on...

Friends. I have given it more than one chance but the characters just annoy me way too much!  Ditto for Two And A Half Men.

I also turn over from Funniest Home Videos and any of those Top 5/10/20/50 shows hosted by Bert Newton.

Downton Abbey
Seinfeld
The Office
Packed To The Rafters
Grey's Anatomy

#24 PurpleNess

Posted 09 February 2013 - 12:53 PM

Well it used to be Blue Heelers...what a load of Aussie crap, since replaced with Packed to the Rafters.

Funny how people find humor in different things - I love The Mighty Boosh, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family & even Two & A Half Men. Take it on face value, sexist, OTT whatever, that's the whole point.

I don't think its age related either I'm 42 next week ( & haven't smoked pot in many many many years)

Arrested Development just makes me cringe & So does Curb your Enthusiasm, Larry David is a cringeworthy a*se!

Grimm - also love but Im a fantasy addict :-)

The Mighty Boosh *shudder*

I've discussed this with old friends - we all decided we would have got a lot more out of it if we were still smoking weed.

I just don't think a glass of merlot really cuts the mustard.

Sigh... middle age - it's not just about squishy tummies and greying hair.
