Hypnobirthing - is a doula recommended?

I'm booked to have my first bub at a birth centre and am going to do a hypobirthing prenatal course.  When I asked at the birth centre, the midwife said that I don't really need a doula because I'll have the midwives there for me and said that, at a birth centre, a doula is often more useful for the partner than the woman. However, when I enquired about the hypobirthing course I was told that having a doula would be really beneficial.

What do you think? Have you done hypnobirthing at a birth centre with/without a doula and what are your recommendations from this?

Hey sunshiney!! I have a doula and am reading a hypnobirthing book at the moment. From what I can tell so far the doula is more there for support rather than to coach u through hypnobirthing techniques, so for me I'm glad I have both. I can let you know more in a couple more weeks!

I think it totally depends on how confident your birth partner is, how informed they are, how helpful they will be and how cool headed they will be to manage any issues that may arise where you will be asked to consent to or make decisions about intervention.

My Partner was brilliant for the whole 38 hours of my drug free labour (we used the calmbirth techniques) and although I'd tossed up getting a doula in my pregnancy I'm happy I didnt. All i wanted was my husband.
