I was just wondering if firstly a sllep clinic might help me and secondly if there are any in brisbane-ish area?

bit of a back ground:
I suffer a few chronic pain conditions that disturb life and of course sleep. Also i have huge sleep issues as in one "period of time" i can sleep sleep sleep then i go from that extreme to not sleeping barely at all- which is more often than not. I take sleeping tabs when i don't have my kids- so for me thats basically every second week (shared care -week on/week off)- not that they do a hellva lot but for safety sake i dont risk it with the kids.

Anyway when i do take the sleeping tabs i'm at my Bf's place, whether i take sleeping tabs or not i snore loudly and apparently thrash around so much so that i keep him awake or wake him. So he ends up sleep deprived too.

i just feel like i cnt win- i can't find a happy medium. I feel it's starting to affect our realaionship, and it's eating me up inside.

Is there anything i can do? would a sleep study help? if so are ther any on  the north side of brisbane or sth side of sunny coast? Do they bulk bill? if not how costly are they? as i cant afford much?

Any help, suggestions etc wpuld be appreciated

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this.

If you were wanting to do a sleep study, my husband did one through Genesis Sleep Care. They work out of several locations including Kawana on the sunny coast - both of his sleep studies were done in Milton/Auchenflower. We have private health so the only fee we had to pay was the hospital excess fee.

It might be a good idea to go see your GP - they can refer you to a sleep clinic if needed, and they'd also be able to refer you to one that would bulk bill if they exist. If you need a recommendation for a brilliant GP and are happy to travel in to the city, PM me as mine in Spring Hill is wonderful! The only disadvantage is that the clinic doesn't generally bulk bill.

DH does have sleep apnoea, and since having the sleep study done he's got a CPAP machine. He doesn't snore like a freight train anymore, and he's been getting some fantastic nights sleep!

Thanks Ninjamum- Re your GP thanks for the offer, but i live on bribie island so thats too far to go for a GP considering my GPs office is my home away from home lol.

I will speak to my gp (or rather another dr in his ofice -as my gp is ill and wont be back until at least march) have to google where those places you mention are,(im not all that famillar with most place that are off the island i live on - dont get out much lol) I am able to travel a little but my BF's 4WD is not really up for longer distances....like probably the furthest he'd drive is tp prince charles hosp and that sort of area, and im not sure how far west or north he'd travel.

Another thing i was thinking of would one of those over the counter "sleep and leep restful products help...like "natures own complete sleep" and products like that. I realise they probably wont help the snoring but was thinking they might help the thrashing around, by giving me more restful sleep? Just wanted to ask opinions before i run out and spend money un-nessacarly.

Thanks ladies.

**pls forgive typos i have something in my eye and its watering like nothing else

Hi, there is a sleep clinic at Caboolture. I think it's bilk billed. Also Prince Charles has a sleep clinic. DH had his sleep study done there but he is already going to the hospital for a heart condition. I think maybe you would need your GP to do a referral.

DH has SA and he used to snore a lot. I would just get the sleep study done and not even worry about the over the counter stuff. Chronic snoring should be investigated.

Good luck.

Thank you princess cranky. I will definately mention it to my GP when i visit him next.

FX it doesnt come to needing a CPAP or any other device, or my snoring thrashing around problem will be fixed by me not sleeping at all. I cant  stand things on my face when in sleeping, i cant even have the blanket up past my shoulder lol.

I used the clinic at the mater private clinics which was bulk billed - they do the testing at your home. The sleep specialists are also in the same building as the clinic.
