We have some people over tomorrow night.  Fairly casual night.  I thought I would just make a Caesar salad, some roasted garlic + rosemary chat potatoes and would BBQ some thinly filleted chicken breasts.  I'd like to marinate them.

What would be an ideal marinade to go with the Caesar and roasted spuds?  Normally I would just marinate in soy, honey & garlic (I'm not overly adventurous with marinades).  But, I'm not sure these flavours would lend themselves well to the salad and potatoes.

Any suggestions?  I keep coming back to some type of mustard marinade for some reason - dunno why.  (As mentioned, I'm not good with marinades).

TIA biggrin.gif

(Kids are creating their own pizzas, so the ideas for marinades are totally for adults).

Meh, or maybe I'll just get some nice steaks.

I would go with something like this:

or this:

Either should complement your sides really well original.gif

I would marinate in lemon (zest and juice), rosemary, garlic, salt n pepper with olive oil.

My go to marinade in those instances is lemon juice and a good amount of salt.

This - yum!! (Add a shake or two of paprika for extra yumminess and colour!)

Also use a large ziplock bag to marinate in.  You can use less marinade and if you squash all the air out the marinade will stay in contact with all the chicken, plus less washing up biggrin.gif

I would diss the Caesar salad in favor of some sort of vegetable salad or bake.

And this. Or a plain garden salad. Something a little more bland since the chicken & potatoes have strong favours.

If you want to stick to Caesar salad, then I'd have plain chicken. Eg s&p and olive oil.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I ended up buying steaks instead.  As I want the night to be really casual, 'plating up' seemed wrong.  I also agree that the chicken idea with all the other favours going on was probably a bit mish mash.

So, I've basically made a marinade as suggested by kpitquiet Greek Marinade.  I used the idea as a basis for the marinade to suit the steak.  I left out the lemon juice and used 1/2 white truffle oil and 1/2 olive oil and a bit less red wine vinegar than was suggested in the recipe.

To keep it casual, I'm just going to serve the BBQ'd steaks on a toasted baguette and top with Caesar salad.  (Kind of steak sandwich I guess).  I am going to made the croutons differently (there will be too much bread otherwise).  I'm going to crush the croutons so they're fine.

Oh, and made some homemade wedges with little chats (in rosemary and garlic).
