I like it but definitely Xander not Zander. It always reminds me of Buffy and I love that show.

My nephew is a Zander. I love the name.

IMO, Xander is short for Alexander. Zander is a name in it's own right. (and I prefer Zander)

Neither are my style but I much prefer Xander.

Cannot stand either. They just don't sound like real names. I just cannot picture a grown man named Zander.

Actually Zander is a variant of Xander, which is a variant of Alexander http://www.behindthename.com/name/zander. So neither are really names in their own right.

I prefer Alexander NN Xander.

If DD had been a boy she would have been called Zander.

Although I've kind of gone off it a little now...  rolleyes.gif

We picked the Z spelling as I was paranoid someone would pronounce it like Ex-ander.

Didn't want it to be short for Alexander, don't like that name.

Alexander is like Elizabeth or Catherine to me - Timeless, classic, and a range of nicknames that go in and out of style themselves.

Xander is an "in" option at the moment but I personally would rather use it as a NN than alone. But that's just my style.

I like it!

Hi there,

I like the name Alexander with the option of nicknames of either Alex or Xander.
Like someone else mentioned, Zander made me think of Zoolander!

Good luck!

I like it but I'd probably use Alexander and keep it as a nickname.

Diminutives so often morph into variants and variants are names in their own right and usage is what does it and that means any of us.

When we look at names like Sandro, Sander, Sasha and Alec they are all used as names in their own right and are all diminutives of Alexander or equivalent. There is no reason why Xander or Zander should be any different IMO.   As LDD suggested it is all a matter of taste.

Look at all the variants (languages other than English and diminutives from any language) of say Elizabeth or Margaret for other examples of this.
