I am looking to wean my BF 9 mo baby gradually (e.g. introduce one feed a day of formula). Is there a brand of formula that works well for comp feeding a baby of this age? I haven't used formula before so I am a total novice. All opinions appreciated :-)

I use Bellamy's Organic. I've comp fed since about 4 months and have had no issues with it - no health or skin issues. Doesn't smell as bad as some of the other ones either!

I used the original Karicare (not the Karicare Aptamil+) and we had no issues.

All formulas in Australia are made to a standard and they are all fine for babies. Different babies react differently to different formulas.
So someone will say how wonderful a particular formula is for their baby but yours will not be so happy on it.
So might be worth going to the supermarket and seeing what's cheapest and most available and starting with that. You can get sample packets of some formulas from a chemist too if you wanted to trial different ones without buying a whole tin. You can get the from birth ones (stage 1) and not have to use the 6 months plus (stage 2). Some stage 2 formulas can make a baby more constipated. The stage 2 ones have added iron and a slightly different mineral content from the stage 1. The difference is made up in the solids you will be feeding your baby which is why it's not a concern to use stage ones beyond 6 months.
Alternatively you can continue to breastfeed your baby for another month or two and not introduce formula and then gradually wean to cows milk. This way you can also avoid a bottle and go straight to cup so you won't have to wean from a bottle either - unless you go straight to a cup of formula.
