Just reposting this from the Employment section, it's a bit quiet there at the moment
At the end of last term I approached a school about the possibility of working there this year (it's a special school). They asked me to come in the next day, so I could meet them and they me. I did 6 days there in the last 3 weeks of school. It went great. They seemed really keen that I work there, loved that I wanted full time. Very positive. Except I haven't heard anything more since term ended.
I'm thinking about texting the deputy. But I'm not sure what to say. Or if its appropriate to do that. I know she's comfortable with text, as she texts me to see if I can work (which I've never come across before, but it works for me too).
Should I text? What should I say? I'd kind of like to remind her that I'm around and keen to work, but without looking pushy.

No, I wouldn't text.
It's entirely possible that the office is closed until around 15 January.
I would send a formal email then, with a follow up phone call 5 days later.
* Thank the Deputy for the opportunity last year
* Describe what aspects of the job that were rewarding
* Offer your continued support for the school

If you are going to follow up, you should do so in email -- not a text -- perhaps with a message something like this:
I hope this note finds you well in the new year. I want to thank you again for the opportunity to work at The Very Cool School at the end of last year. I was invigorated by working with the students and felt very welcomed by the staff.
As you consider the needs of the school for the coming year, I'd like to reiterate my interest in any teaching assignments -- both short term and longer term.

Where I work the office staff only went back today.
Try and relax.
And don't text.

Quill's advice is spot on. None of the office staff are back yet in our local schools. I'd wait until closer to term starting

I also wouldn't text. I would wait, and then email if you didn't hear anything.

Don't text but when school comes back the letter that Baddmammajamma did is an excellent way of showing your interest without being pushy. Also being in touch means that you are interested in the job. I have always been taught not to wait for jobs to come to me I must go to them even if it is a nice letter to show my continuing support and interest.

I'm in HR and am accouontable for recruitment.
My advice is DON'T TEXT, don't text, please don't text....don't text!!! I understand that they've text you in the past (and yes that is....unusual) but I wouldn't respond in like - especially in regards to following up something as important as a potential position.
I'd go with BMJ's email.

You do realise that everyone is on holidays? Our school administration staff will not be back until next week and the teachers not until the 28th of January. They probably have no idea what they will require at this point in time. Wait until at least the middle of next week. ETA: And definitely don't text.

Just wait a week and then call the office and speak to the Deputy over the phone.
Something else to consider, in QLD final numbers for teachers depend on numbers of students at day eight of term. It's very common for contract staff (even those on full year contracts) to not be employed until that day.

Another who thinks BMJ's email was a goer and texting was a no-no.

Agree with other pps. I would contact the office first before contacting the deputy. Staff changes can happen over the break and the deputy could have shifted if they have been seconded to another position or transferred at the last minute. It does happen. Good luck this year. Schools catering for students with special needs are great places to work.
