We are going to Fiji in a few weeks DH and I and four kids...
How much do you think we will need or is reasonable for spending money....

Depends on where you are staying in Fiji, whether any food / drinks are included with your accommodation. If you are staying at one of the resorts on the coral coast, you may need less spending money as a lot of people don't leave the resort - so it's normally just food, drinks and the odd massage / golf (or whatever else you are into) expense. Are you planning on doing any tours?

Agree with PP. We were at the Naviti so didn't spend on food or drink or could put it on a tab if it was alcohol. We did two trips away from the resort - one out to an island which went on credit card and one to a village where there was really very little you wanted to buy. Food that wasn't local (fruits, veges) was very expensive. I recall a block of Cadbury's was exhorbinant and it was there fore the longest I had gone without chocolate in quite some time.

We went a few months ago, and I got a bit over $FJ400 before we left (I think it was around $230 australian?). We wanted to have cash on us for just encase.. we stayed at a resort, and almost everything we bought there went on the tab, but small bits and pieces in the shop, and when we went to the Port Denauru shops, we used the cash for.
So, just depends on what you're doing. All at the resort- you don't need any. If you're going to be buying anything away from the resort, then you do need at least a little bit.
Also, I found the cheapest place to get currency was from travelex- cheaper than the post office. You can just order on line and pick it up at the airport on your way out.
