The other day I saw a post quoting how long meat could be kept above 5 degrees before it had to be cooked immediately/thrown away etc.

Does anyone know where to get that info. I spent the afternoon in hospital then went to do some much needed groceries. Had a call from DH that his grandfather needed to be picked up from the hospital at 5, finished shopping at 5 got to hospital about 5.15 and its now 6 and he is still not out. I have had the aircon cranking and packed some frozen veg etc around the meat but I doubt it'll be below 5 degrees. I'm guessing by the time I get home it could be two hours from when I purchased the meat. I'm going to have to throw it away aren't I cry1.gif

Personally, I think it would be fine. 2 hours, in air con car with cold veggies around it? Probably colder than the butchers window? It will be fine.

Are the veges still frozen? I'd think it was fine personally.

I agree with PP, if you've had frozen veggies on it it's probably colder than when you bought it.

If it makes you feel better we shop at Costco occasionally and it's a 2 hour drive home.  More times than not we've forgotten the esky so everything has just sat in the car.  It's all been fine original.gif

2 hours wouldn't worry me.

Thank you, it ended up being 1hr 40mins and the veges were still frozen so I have put the meat straight in the freezer and going to try an relax. A serious food poisoning incident in India has made me a tad over reactive. Thanks again for the reassurance original.gif
