My seven year old daughter's room has been a tip for quite a long time because I have been so very overwhelmed with many other things. It has been a source of constant frustration between the two of us. She won't get rid of stuff because it's 'important' or 'precious' or 'something that so-and-so gave me' The excuses were endless! But there was literally a midden in the corner of her room, crap strewn around and a cupboard door I could not close. It was doing my head in.

I had warned her for awhile that she would need to declutter and that we were doing it today because her brother was at kinder so I would not be distracted by him. I was also very lucky in a Savers find on the weekend: a Zhu Zhu pet house attachment thing and I convinced her that her old toys would give her as much pleasure as that house did for her

We were in that room for between 3 - 4 hours in total  ohmy.gif At the end I removed

* 7 coles shopping bags worth of crap for the bin
* 3 re-usable coles bags of paper for looking at later
* 3.5 jumbo size garbage bags for Savers

The difference is amazing!

The only thing we need to do now is go through all that paper and sort out the important stuff and also go through her undies and socks drawer to sort out what doesn't fit

I am so proud of her for stepping up to the plate and helping out biggrin.gif

That is definitely worth a gloat I reckon!

Good on you for getting her involved in the process. I do this with DD who is almost 9 , and it can be a struggle. She loves it when her room is clean though, so we work to maintain that.

hugs to your DD  biggrin.gif

Wow, well done to you and your DD.  i have a room in our house that is a crap vortex.  All the crap seems to spiral into that room.  I spent about 4 hrs cleaning it out a few months back, and it is already half full.  Ergh.

Thanks! My mum used to threaten with chucking my stuff out and then one day out of the blue I would come home from school and she would have binned all my things  mad.gif

It wasn't easy get her involved and she ran out of puff about 15 minutes before my respite worker turned up. So, rather than sorting the last little pile she just picked it up and put it all in a tub declaring 'I'll deal with it later!' and fair enough too, I thought LOL

edited to say: Greenthumbs it was also the promise of Christmas things that helped move her along. And, no, not coming to your place LOL Still got those socks and undies to get through wink.gif
