We're going to a meeting next week, and if all goes well, we need to hand over a substantial amount of money at the end of it. If I draw a bank cheque beforehand and then the discussion goes sour, can I take the cheque back to the bank and re-deposit the funds back into my account?

Yes, i have done this recently with our bank. I just said the sale didn't go through and they put the money back into my account when i returned the cheque.
